Obituary: Virginia Ann Edwards, 69, Centralia, died 2, at Providence Centralia Hospital, Centralia. Viewing will be 7th at 6pm followed by a Rosary at 7pm at Brown Mortuary Service in Chehalis. services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. , 8, at St. Francis Xavier, Toledo with a reception to follow. are under the care of Brown Mortuary Service Chehalis. EULOGY I can't begin to tell you how many times this past week I have heard, "You sound just like your mom." or, "You laugh just like her." To me, that is the highest form of compliment. Mom was the kindest, gentlest, strongest, wisest woman I know. It is because of her that I am the woman I am today. From an early age, I saw my mom as this bright shiny star, a beacon, I was mesmerized at family holidays, watching her harmonizing with her two sisters, Georgia and Jeannie, with my cousin Laurie at the piano, and I couldn take my eyes off her. She was a Super Star. I could have listened to her for hours telling me the stories of how she starred in a production of Oklahoma as Ado Annie. I would beg her to sing Fever, as she cleaned the kitchen and Id sit at the counter listening with rapt attention. She instilled in me a spirit and a passion for music, and a spark lit my soul. I always loved how she told me that the picture of me dad had taken in a field, of me holding a handful of leaves with my head cocked to one side, was taken while I was singing. But I couldn have been more than three at the time. I had the privilege of growing up watching this beautiful super star share her life and all her love with this tall, dark, handsome man, my daddy, who always took every opportunity to snap a photograph at every slice of our lives. And that life was GOOD. I bet it wasn always easy to be as patient and loving a mother as she was when she spent 12 weeks in a foot cast, with two little terrors running around. Or when those two devilish kids apparently conspired to glue daddys hard-back books to the carpet late one night. Now, mind you, I don remember doing this, but apparently my big brother must have had some grand plan in mind. And so began this brother-sister team. We may not always be on the same page; but we are always there for each other, backing the grand plan. We spent so many wonderful family vacations, to The Worlds Fair, Knotts Berry Farm, Diamond Lake, Magic Mountain, the Ponderosa Ranch, the Marshall Cabin, all the camping trips on the Rogue River. And mom made every occasion perfect, even if it was to celebrate my brothers birthday from a Camper at Diamond Lake, and putting a candle in a Twinkie for his cake. In my teen years, she and I teamed up for elaborate cake decorating sessions for birthdays or holidays; Id stencil the scene, and shed make it come to life in frosting. Mom always made you feel special at every event. Mom made every holiday impeccably beautiful, from the china right down to the napkins, and in every little detail, these occasions were perfect - even if the turkey almost hits the floor. She always decorated our Christmas trees to perfection, and I loved to hear her tell the story over and over how she had just finished hanging the tinsel on their tree the night before I was born. Every time she told the story, the look in her eyes reinforced to me how deeply my mother loves me. She was a superstar. She was the most patient, encouraging, funny mom I could ask for, and I will miss all those giddy fits we shared. I will miss the weekend movie marathons, sometimes till the wee hours of the night because we would talk so much during the movie we would get lost in conversation, then laugh, Oh, how we digress. Digression often turned to reminiscing about family trips, vacations, holidays, our family history and family tree, stories of moms childhood, and stories of our family when I was very young. She gave me so many gifts, she taught me so many things about what is truly important in life: FAMILY, FAITH, FAIRNESS, HONOR, DREAMING A DREAM AND THEN REACHING FOR IT. She was my biggest cheerleader throughout my life. Even when times were hard and I had tough decisions to make, which path to take in my life, she ALWAYS, ALWAYS encouraged me. Write the great American novel? Sure! She sat by my side week after week, page after page, chapter after chapter, editing and sharing her ideas and thoughts and encouraging me to write the greatest American novel I could possibly write. When I reached out to really pursue my life long dream in music she waved her imaginary pom pons as she cheered me on from the front row at my first performance. many trials in my life, she always raised me above any negativity, and would tell me that even if I got lost sometimes she was always proud of how I took a step forward and rose above it. I will never forget when we sat on her porch swing in a quiet moment together and she told me that no matter what I had endured, even when I felt like Id failed, she said: You e still YOU, only BETTER. If I am a fraction of the mother to my own daughter as she was to me, then I am the most fortunate woman, because I learned it all from the best there is. She was, after all, MY SUPERSTAR, my best friend. continued... |
