Died 15, 1993. Married Amos Lawrence Beauchamp. Two children: ? Fenton Gay Beauchamp. ? Deborah Bradford Beauchamp Thompson. \ Fenton Gay Epling, Jr. Born on Corregidor Island, Philippine Islands 13, 1922. Died 17, 1944 at Hollandia, New Guinea in crash of his P-40N fighter plane. No wife of children. \ William Young Epling. Born 9, 1932 at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Married Jean Elizabeth Dolan. Six children: ? Jean Elizabeth Epling. ? Diane Marie Epling. ? William Young Epling. ? Stephen Berrill Epling. ? Robert Fenton Epling. ? David George Epling. Daphne was raised in a military family with many changes of station: \ 1926. Langley Field, VA \ 1931. Ft. Leavenworth, KS. \ 1934. Ft. Sherman in the Panama Canal Zone. Daphne was the only one in the family not to get malaria \ which Daphne thought was very unfair since sick children got extra special tender care. \ 1936. Maxwell Field, Montgomery, AL. All of the family rode Army horses except for mother. Daphne loved horses & successfully competed in Army horse shows. \ 1940. Mitchell Field, Long Island, NY (no horses \ but the swimming pool was about 40 yards from the family quarters). \ 1941. Bolling Field, Washington, DC. \ 1941. Dad (now a full colonel) bought Chezeps (home of the Eplings). Chezeps was a 25 acre gentlemans farm some four miles south of Clinton, MD on Route 5. The family stayed at Chezeps during WWII (except for brother Gay who was a fighter plane pilot until his death in 1944). Daphne graduated from Visitation Academy in Frederick, MD about 1945. Daphne graduated from the Georgetown Visitation Junior about 1948. Daphne & her parents moved to Virginia Beach about 1962. Daphne was a Civil Service clerk-typist at Fort Story, VA. several years she moved to the Washington, DC area where she worked at the Medical Library of the National Institutes of in Bethesda, MD. Her boss urged her to move up the Civil Service ladder by transferring to the Department of Labor. There Daphne thrived by becoming a financial analyst. She received many grade increases & thoroughly enjoyed her work. She particularly liked the regular travel to the western states on Department of Labor business. In 1975 Daphne bought a condo at the new Watergate of Alexandria, VA. Her condo was beautifully appointed. Daphne was an expert skier. For many years she made two-week trips to Europe to ski in various resorts in the Alps with a large group of friends known as Johnnys Gang. In 1983 Daphne took her brother Bill & his son Robert to the Gray Rocks Ski School in the Laurentian Mountains (northwest of Montreal). This was the first of many wonderful skiing trips for Bill \ and later Jean. Daphne was never married. She enjoyed her brothers & sisters families. Daphne led a most productive & fruitful life. In 2009 Daphne at age 82 had a nasty fall in her condo. It became clear that Daphne could not live alone. She relocated to Leewood care in Annandale, VA. It was a difficult transition but she managed it quite well. Daphne had a very strong constitution but she finally wore out on 18, 2014. Daphne was a devout Catholic all of her life. May she rest in peace. |
