Obituary: Preston Christian East, 92, of Staunton passed away , 24, 2017 at the home of his daughter, Linda. Born 1, 1924 in Stuarts Draft, he was the son of the late McKrinda C. and Dolly (Thompson) East. On 21, 1946, he married the love of his life, Phyllis (Perry) East. The two shared a blessed union of 71 years together. Preston was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, Waynesboro. As a U.S. Army Veteran, he served his country honorably during WWII in the Pacific and rose to the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. Prior to enlisting, he worked for the Civilian Concentration Corps. He was employed by Western State Hospital-Department of Corrections for 29 years where he worked as a supervisor in the power plant. Preston was a member of the Stuarts Draft VFW Post #9339. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Florence Hyden, Bessie Matheney, Justus East, Forrest East, Lottie Varlas, Pearl Brogan, Carl East, Harry East, Mabel Campbell and Charlie East. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his daughters, Linda E. Mahler and husband, Marvin of Staunton and E. Puckett and husband, Ed of Fishersville; grandchildren, Lisa Tolbert and husband, Todd, Eric Quinonez and wife, Nina, Marvin Mahler III, Bryan Wimer, David Puckett and wife, Brandy and Dakota Puckett; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on , 1, 2017 at a Memorial Park with Pastor John Sullivan officiating. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on , 28, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick s, 618 W. Obituary: Phyllis Elizabeth (Perry) East, 90, of Staunton passed away on , 17, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Linda. Born 2, 1927 in Raphine, she was the daughter of the late Chester C. Perry and Lena (Butler) Snead. Phyllis was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, Waynesboro. She was employed by Western State Hospital where she worked as an Psychiatric Practical Nurse until her retirement in 1983. Phyllis strongly believed in salvation and by grace alone she was a fearless servant of Jesus Christ and was never ashamed of the Gospel. She knew her hope and future were rooted in Heaven where eternal ecstasy awaited her. To God be the glory for providing her way through the death, burial and resurrection of Gods only Son. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Preston Christian East on 24, 2017; as well as four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her daughters, Linda E. Mahler and husband, Marvin of Staunton and E. Puckett and husband, Ed of Fishersville; grandchildren, Lisa Tolbert and husband, Todd, Eric Quinonez and wife, Nina, Marvin Mahler III, Bryan Wimer, David Puckett and wife, Brandy and Dakota Puckett; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as special friend, Sylvia. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on , 21, 2017 at a Memorial Park with Pastor John Sullivan and Pastor John Hamric officiating.
