Obituary: Jeannette Christine Vonder Embse passed away , 22nd, 2014 at the Memorial Herman Hospital of The Woodlands. Jeannette was born 28th, 1969 in Pasadena, TX. She graduated from The University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She was united in marriage to Brian Vonder Embse on 2nd, 1996 in Houston, TX. Jeannette taught junior high history and science for several years before taking time off to raise her two sons, Ethan and Kyle. She volunteered at Star of Hope, a womens shelter in Houston. She enjoyed gardening, reading, smothering her boys in kisses, teaching, decorating, doing puzzles, watching movies with her family, and making her home beautiful. She was devoted to raising her sons and was a very loving, caring, and compassionate wife and mother. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Jeannette was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Raymond L. Alston and JoAnn M. Alston and her maternal grandfather, McCoy Holloway. She is survived by loving husband, Brian Vonder Embse, and her twin boys, Ethan and Kyle; her father and stepmother, Jerry and Patty Alston; her half-sister, Jessica; her maternal grandmother, Lila; her mother and stepfather Jacquelyn and Tom Stephens; her sister Jeannie Nelson; and her brother Jason Alston. Obituary: Sallie Wiggins Embs, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on , 4, 2008. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on 29, 1931, the daughter of Annie Estelle and Arthur M. Wiggins. Sallie was a 4-year varsity cheerleader at Robert E. Lee High School and sang as a soloist at Riverside Presbyterian Church. It was there she met her husband Lowell D. Embs, an ensign in the United States Navy. Sallie worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a drafter prior to becoming a mother of five girls. She moved to San Antonio with her family in 1966. Sallie started the childens choir at First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Master Singers. She studied with Carl Embry and became an accomplished painter. Over the next three decades Sallie pursued a variety of interests professionally. Sallie opened San Antonios first Ronald McDonald House as its Executive Director, was the Administrative Assistant at First Presbyterian Church, advised brides-to-be as a consultant at Dillards, and followed her interest in aviation at Flight Composites. Sallies passion for music, dance, wildlife and art was surpassed only by her love for her family and her faith. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers MacDonald and Arthur Juel Wiggins. She is survived by five daughters: Leslie Embs Bradford and husband Charles C. Bradford III of Larchmont, NY; Lisa Embs Green and husband Wayne of Las Vegas, NV; Jennifer Johnston Embs of Charlotte, NC; Audrey Embs Detrick and husband Sam of Memphis, TN; Sallie Anne Guy and husband Tom of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Alexandra Beam and Charles Tyler Bradford, Benjamin Brian Green, and Logan and Maddie Guy; nephews Patrick, Ron, Mickey and Steve Wiggins of Florida and California; and favorite dog Harry. Sallie, Mom, Gran, Gramma and Gaga will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Los Patios for their care and special friendship. |

Obituary: Lowell David Duke Embs, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on , 27, 2013. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on 12, 1929, the son of Frank and Dora (Schmidt) Embs. The second of three children, Lowell attended Sutherland Elementary School and Morgan Park High School where he excelled on the wrestling and football teams. Lowell began college at Beloit in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a B.S. in marketing and management and as a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. In 1950 Lowell enlisted in the United States Naval Cadet program where he became an aircraft carrier pilot flying the F9F cougar. In 1953 he met his future wife, Sallie Wiggins, in Jacksonville, Florida at Riverside Presbyterian Church where they married on 26 the same year. In 1955, while overseas on the Midway ship with his squadron Hell Razors, Lowell became a father to the first of his five daughters. That same year he ended active duty, joined the naval reserves, and began working at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance where he had an illustrious career. Lowell left the naval reserves in 1960 and in 1966 he and his family moved to San Antonio after being named General Agent of the companys South Texas agency. In San Antonio Lowell became actively involved in First Presbyterian Church as a deacon, elder and choir member, and he volunteered at the Victoria Courts local mission where he taught school and organized Christmas activities. He was an active member of the Republican party and was an on-air host of KLRNs public television campaign drive for several years. Lowell joined the Flying 10 flight club and piloted his Bonanza aircraft all over the country with his wife as navigator and his Embs gems daughters as passengers. Lowell was a past president of the San Antonio Fiesta Commission and he was known for throwing big yard parties to celebrate the weeklong event. He was also past president of the Alamo Heights Recreational Council and the Alamo Chapter of the Navy League, and a member of the San Antonio Writers Guild, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Argyle, Pecan Valley Golf Club, and Woodcreek resort in Wimberley, TX; in addition to serving as past President of the San Antonio Ballet Society and on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, SA affiliate. Lowell was an active parent in the Alamo Heights school system where he volunteered on numerous fronts and attended all of his girls events. His love of music continued in later years as he sang and traveled with the Chordsman barbershop singers. An active member of MENSA, he was a passionate reader, writer of short stories/vignettes and lifelong learner. Lowell will be remembered lovingly and happily for his positive attitude and zest for life, devotion to his family and friends, embrace of those from all walks of life, and for living his Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas F. Embs and wife, Sallie. He is survived by sister, Doreen Embs Nortrup and husband, Larry of Sarasota, FL; daughters, Leslie Embs Bradford and husband, Charles of Larchmont, NY, Lisa Embs Green and husband, Wayne of Las Vegas, Jennifer Johnston Embs of Fort Mill, SC, Audrey Embs Detrick and husband, Sam of Boulder, CO, and Sallie Anne Guy and husband, Tom of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Alexandra Beam and Charles Tyler Bradford, Benjamin Brian Green and Logan and Maddie Guy; nephews, Tom and Jim Nortrup and Doug and David Embs all of Chicago; niece, Jane Daniels of Tampa, FL; cousins, Ed Prinslow of Evanston, IL, Ralph Lambrecht and Tom Zuhlke of Chicago, IL. The family extends tremendous thanks to devoted friend, Barbara Freeman, the Memory staff at The Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans in Floresville, TX and Odyssey Hospice.
