Obituary: Robert M. Ennes Robert M. Ennes passed away at the age of 79 on , 14, 2011 in Arcata, CA. after a long illness which he faced with grace and humor. Robert was born in Arcata to parents Antone and Merces Ennes and along with his sisters Mary (Pedley) and Shirley (Ribeiro) grew up going to school and working at "Tatmans", the family bakery. Upon graduation from Arcata High School, Robert enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served his country as a sergeant in the Korean War. Upon his return, he enrolled at Humbodt State University majoring in education and subsequently received his bachelors degree and teaching credential. It was during this time that he met the love of his life Susan (Spidell). shared a love for education and a love of music, both performing in the HSU choir. married on 28, 1957 and began their careers in education with the Arcata Elementary school district where Robert would teach for the next 34 years. Robert and Susan built a home in Jacoby Creek shortly after having their first child ,Greg, in 1959. A daughter, Susan, would follow 2 years later. Robert spent much of his families "growing up years" building fences, looking after livestock,restoring tractors, going to fairs and ball games with his children. As his family matured, he mentored his son in the teaching profession and upon retirement, lent his mathematical and drafting expertise to develop the computer drafting model at his daughter and son-in-laws business. Robert enjoyed reading about history, especially non fiction stories of the Civil War and World War II. He also loved visits from high school and war buddy Delbert Taylor and flying remote control airplanes out at the Samoa drag strip with DuWayne Olds and the guys. He collected wooden models of WWII aircraft and passed his love of aviation on to his grandsons. Robert was a member of the Six Rivers Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan; his son Greg (wife Debbie); daughter Susan Jacobson (husband Fred); grandchildren Sarah Chandonait (husband Ken), Blake Jacobson (Cassie Bennett), Samantha Ennes; Ryan Ennes; great grand children; Irene and Norah Chandonait; Sisters Mary Pedley, Shirley Ribeiro; Sister in law Sarah Spidell; nieces and nephews Craig Pedley, Mark Pedley (Andrea), Debbie Ivancich, Kathy Shelley, Karen McBride (Jeff), Joanie Ribiero and Michael Ribiero(Lani). The family would especially like to thank all of the dedicated caregivers who provided Robert with such excellent care and compassionate support; Dr. L. Senffner, his staff and the caring professionals at Mad River Hospital; Dr. C. Spencer and his staff, particularly the ladies of the Infusion Clinic (Leanne, Marci, Sandy, Kathleen). Robert requested that there be no formal services. A private burial will take place at Greenwood .
