Obituary: Our beloved Mother passed away 26 at the age of 82. Nova was born 26, 1933 to John and Nedra Allen in Wewoka, Oklahoma, a small oil town known for its hundreds of derricks dotting the sunsets. She had one brother, Bill Allen. Later, after a brief stay on a farm in Stroud, Oklahoma, she left in 1935 with her family going to California. Visalia was the final destination where she attended elementary schools and graduated from Visalia Union High in 1951. Known for her beauty and quiet, pleasing personality, she attracted the attention of several young men. Joe Robert Edgar was one such admirer. a few arrivals on a motorcycle at Novas home, he eventually convinced her to take rides, usually fast. That set the scene eventually for marriage on 15, 1951. While Joe was still in the U.S. Marines, Nova had her first child, Carolyn. Kathy her second daughter arrived three years later. Nova often wondered where her girls got all their energy as they grew older. in turn noticed that Nova, although a quiet and loving mother, had rules at home that were designed to make them recognize the importance of neatness, obedience, good cooking, being polite, and showing respect for adults, especially grandparents. Novas belief in God stemmed from her many early school classes at Church. Time for summer fun sent Nova and her own family to the Pismo Beach area and Lake Kaweah. Water skiing was something she watched, but chose not to do. Instead, she prepared the food and put on the band aids. She was quick to congratulate grandchildren who seemed to master water skiing so easily. All in the family always voted a loud YES to camp out and ride a dune buggy or a four wheeler. Not to be forgotten: Eating a little beach sand in a sandwich, Nova jokingly said, gets easier if you drink al little glass of ocean water. she and Joe bought their first motor home, off to San Felipe, Baja, California where they stayed weeks each time at a beach resort providing proper hookups; then off to town for a little entertainment. Nova was quick to learn that a metal detector was useful to find coins and jewelry in the sand. On lucky days, she went back to the motor home with money and small jewelry worth $20 to $30. Their yearly Mexico trips went on for 20+ years, stopping each time in Brawley, California to visit close relatives. While her husband continued with his career at AT&T until 1985, Nova took care of the family finances, including their real estate rentals. Her personal motto seemed to be a penny earned is a penny to be saved. Joe smiled when he called her tight. As she grew into later years, she often reflected on her home of 42 years on N. Ben Maddox which had been built by Joe on their 2 ½ acres. Novas deep desire was to be able to pass away there although living alone with only her loving dog for company yet accepting the appropriate attention provided by her two daughters and youthful grand-daughters Sarah and Michele. had always praised grandmothers curly hair; which, even after age 82, had never turned gray or white. Through the living rooms east window, Nova enjoyed watching the snow covered Sierras and appreciated the new water well she had dug shortly after the drought year 2015 had taken a toll on her pump and water depth. When rain finally came, she often smiled after noticing tall weeds growing in the pasture which provided secure places for friendly little creatures to hide and seek food. Her wish to die in her own home was not to be. Fate intervened mercifully. With her loving family present at her bedside on 26, 2016 in the Kaweah Delta Medical , she passed away. Nova was preceded in death by Joe Edgar, her husband of 61 years; her parents John and Nedra Allen. She leaves her daughters Carolyn (Steve) Wilson and Kathy (Larry) Moore of Exeter. Four grand-children, Michele (Steven) Shuler; Sarah Maness, Justin (Misty) Maness, and Cody Wilson. Eight great grandchildren: Zackery Shuler, Lane Shuler, Lisette Shuler, Ashlyn Shuler, Alissa Bearden, Blake Maness, Hayden Broughton, and Evan Maness. Three great-great grandchildren: Avery Bearden. Adalyn Maya, and Savannah Shuler; her brother, Bill (Margaret) Allen; sister-in-laws Sandy (James) Dacus, and Cherry (Leland) Ratcliff; numerous nieces and nephews.
