Obituary: Charles (Chuck) W. Doehler, Coach and Mentor, passed away early morning at age 77. Chuck recently told one of his daughters, Julie, to go out and make her mark, he believed all his children and grandchildren should "make their mark". There is no doubt he made his mark professionally and personally. Born 23, 1934 to John and Louise Doehler in Orange New Jersey, he stayed in NJ until 2008 before making Palm Beach Gardens his permanent home. He was a most loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Always a hard worker, he had his first job at age 13 at the local A&P. A year later at age 14, he was asked by Mrs. Ruth to participate in he Babes funeral. As a member of the local Babe Ruth league, he placed a ball in Babe Ruths coffin that said Safe at . This story is memorialized in Chucks words in the 1998 HBO documentary on Babe Ruth. This experience galvanized his love of baseball. Chucks baseball career continued at Seton Hall Prep and Seton Hall University before being drafted by the Boston Braves. As part of the 1952 Eau Claire Bears, his team mates included Hank Aaron and Wes Covington. Chuck was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame in 1988 and the SHU Hall of Fame in 1997. As the SHU freshman baseball coach for 15 years, Chuck compiled one of the highest winning records among present or past SHU coaches at 95 percent. He also played an instrumental role in the development and success of the baseball program at SHU, as well as the young athletes. He is credited with preparing John Monteleone, Jack Tracey and Dan Coombs as they went on to great major league careers. As past president of the alumni association, Chuck probably knew and remained connected with more SHU alums than any other single alumnus other than Monsignor Sheeran. He was the first planned giving director at the University and a successful life insurance sales representative and sales manager. Chuck founded Doehler and Associates, in the 1960s. He "made his mark" in the insurance industry for 30 years receiving many awards and honors. Chucks passion for fund raising extended to many charities and organizations. He was past NJ Metro Chapter Red Cross, Touch of Red Honoree. He was very proud that largest New Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross is home to the "Chuck Doehler Education " in Fairfield, New Jersey. Tommy McEvoy recently wrote as he was about to accept an award, all I could think about was how Chuck influenced my life, and had a great deal to do with why I was being recognized. At the end of the evening as I walked around and talked with others, I realized how many people in the room shared the same Chuck experiences. There were so many highly successful people there that owed a lot of their success to Chuck, He lived a thousand lives in his time here and influenced his part of the world by touching others in a tremendous way. He also did it with class, dignity, and certainly his own flare. I will always remember his big smile, his courage, his sunny disposition, his compassion, but most for his friendship. At the end of "Its a Wonderful Life" there is a close up of a dedication from a copy of a Tom Sawyer book. It has a handwritten note from Clarence the angel that said No man is a failure who has friends. Based on that, Chuck Doehler was the most successful person I knew. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, his children from a former marriage, Cynthia Kott, William and wife Renee and Lynn Rose. Grandchildren Amanda and husband William, Erik and wife Staphanie, Blake, Sarah, and Melinda. A great grandchild, Liam. Chuck was blessed again and loved his children Brian, Julie and husband Kevin, grandchildren Courtney, Casey and Liam. A memorial service in Florida will be , 22nd at the Howard Price in North Palm Beach 5:00 to 7:00pm. A memorial service will be held in NJ on 29th at the Chapel at SHU at 10:00am. Obituary: Eileen Grace Doe, of Naples, FL, formerly Onancock, VA and Wayne, NJ passed away on 10th at the age of 78. Eileen was the widow of Robert Melvin Doe. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She leaves behind 5 Sons: Robert Wandras, John Wandras, Kris Doe, Brian Doe and Tim Doe, as well as 8 Grandchildren: John Wandras, Nicole Horn, Kaleb Semon, Karson Semon, Magan Doe, Ashlynn Doe, Hope Rutledge and Kodi Grace Doe, and also 4 Great Grandchildren: Anthony Wandras, Joshua Wandras, Kyrsten Horn and Kylie Horn. Eileen was truly amazing person who took care of many people in her life. She was always willing to extend a helping hand to her family and was the primary caretaker for her mother, sister and husband when they needed her most. No challenge was too great for her. She was also kept busy tending to various animals her sons would bring to their home. In fact, her motto in life was a man works from sun up to sun down but a womans work is never done. Eileen also had a fun side. She loved to camp and fish and was an avid boater in her younger years. She was a pied piper of sorts who included not only her sons, but their friends as well, in family adventures. On her honeymoon in 1969, she and her new husband Bob picked up a hitch-hiker on his way to Woodstock. It doesn get much groovier than that!!! Eileen had a love of painting and drawing and was an avid gardener always. She exuded a youthful spirit throughout her life and was beloved by all her knew her. She was loved by her family and will be missed. |
