Obituary: In the song of life, Dorothy G. Disque was surely the composer. A very observant woman who would rather spend her time creating than talking, Dorothy preferred to live in a world of harmony where everything around her made sense. In fact, she depended on her sensory world to provide her with concrete data. A free spirit, Dorothy believed that actions definitely spoke for themselves. She seemed to know what fit and what didn fit in everything she did. Dorothy perceived that all of lifes possibilities were open to her, yet she lived with a definite sense of purpose. She was a woman who was always ready to share with those around her. Dorothy was born on 24, 1935 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Her parents were Walter & Alma Guentzel. Dorothy was raised in St. Cloud & Foley, Minnesota. As a young child, Dorothy was optimistic in her outlook. She sought out the possibilities in a given situation and looked for ways to apply her creative energies. Dorothy rarely calling attention to herself, but when she did speak out, her message was clearly understood by those around her. Early on in her family relationships, Dorothy showed that she was a tolerant and flexible person, and she got along fairly well with everyone. She was raised with 7 brothers and sisters. Don, Dale, Deloris, Dona Mae, Carol, Darry and Diane. She was a calm and playful child who was adaptable to any situation. Early on in her school years, Dorothy showed an interest in learning, She graduated from Becker High School, in 1953. She enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. In nursing school, Dorothy showed that she was able to focus on what was necessary. St. Cloud School provided Dorothy with room and board in exchange for working in the hospital as part of her training. She found it quite easy to dive headlong into classes, especially those that truly interested her. Dorothys ability became second nature to her. She earned her R. N. Degree within 3 years of schooling. A person who was sensitive to others feelings, modest and tolerant, Dorothy had the ability to become completely devoted to another when that affection was returned. On 18, 1979, Dorothy exchanged wedding vows with her life partner Richard Disque at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, Minnesota. Dorothy was exceptionally sympathetic and compassionate when it came to her husband. These emotional bonds made her as much a friend as a wife. She gave her family unconditional love and kindness, sharing her artistic nature by turning everyday events into creative living. Dorothy found ways to enjoy what she did for a living. She worked hard and did her best to succeed every day. Her primary occupation was a Registered Nurse. She was employed from 1957 to 1988. She started in Hibbing, Mn for over 30 years and concluded in Naples as a private duty nurse. Dorothy tended to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. In 2006 Dorothy attended her 50th School reunion in St. Cloud. Dorothy enjoyed her leisure time. Her favorite pursuits were gardening and travel time with family. Dorothy was content to enjoy her hobbies alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. She was relaxed in her approach to her leisure time because she wanted to savor the present moment. Because she loved the world around her, Dorothy enjoyed traveling and going away on vacations. It was an opportunity for her to kick back and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Dorothy put her personal trademark on any leisure planning that she undertook. Favorite vacations included St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, traveling to Europe and traveling back to Minnesota to see family, which was her favorite thing to do. Dorothy was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of Dorothys favorites was her dog Mollie and her dog Sunny. were best friends for she had Sunny for 12 years. Her new life involved relocating to Naples, Florida in 1984. When Dorothys retirement finally arrived in 1987, she was well prepared. In retirement, she found new pleasure in tending her home and gardening. Even in retirement, Dorothy continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. In these later chapters of her life, she kept the feeling fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her and simply enjoying what she had worked so hard to attain. Dorothy passed away on 6, 2010 at At home, at 1:43 am of a heart attack after 10 years of health issues. Services were held at Hodges At Naples Memorial Gardens, Naples Florida. Dorothy was laid to rest on 16, 2010 at Sleepy Hollow , Sleepy Hollow, NY. The grave is located within the Disque family plot at Section 74, lot # 5062. Dorothy was a good woman, a kind woman, and a practical woman who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being warm and deeply caring. She leaves behind her a treasury of life-long friendships and wonderful memories shared by her beloved husband, Richard Disque. Dorothy always had much to give and was able to make those connections in her life where her gifts were appreciated. Dorothy was a faithful, practical and loving person. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Dorothy G. Disque. |
