Obituary: Barnwell “Barney” Roy Daley, Jr., age 83, peacefully passed away on 13, 2017 after courageously fighting MDS. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on 18, 1934 to Barnwell “Roy” and Margaret Daley. There is no doubt that Barney considered his greatest blessing to be his family. He enjoyed a 59-year marriage with Anis that was not only full of love but full of life and respect. Barney will be remembered as one who readily admitted God blessed him abundantly with a loving family, faithful friends, good health, and wonderful opportunities. Barney attended The Bolles School, Robert E. Lee High School, Emory at Oxford, and The Emory Business School. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. graduation in 1956, he began his business career with General Outdoor Advertising Co. on 18th (his birthday). five years as a national salesman, he realized General Outdoor had no intension of making him President in the “20-Century.” So, Barney founded Daley Outdoor Advertising in 1962 and continued to provide outdoor advertising in the greater Jacksonville area, southeast Georgia, and the Florida Keys for the next 25 years. the sale of Daley Outdoor, Barney continued in other business opportunities such as Christopher’s Beautiful Shoes, The Florida Bindery, Modern Graphics, ROTAG (printing cylinders), and Sewer Conservation. Barney was a commissioned officer in the Florida National Guard, attended OCS, commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, and later served as Commander, Co C., 146 Signal Battalion. He was a member of the Florida Outdoor Association, Printing Association of America, and a past member of the Downtown Rotary. Barney served on the board at Methodist Hospital and was a founding board member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School. As a lifelong member of Ortega United Methodist Church, he served as an usher for over 20 years and was a member of the Church Council. He was a member of Bible Study Fellowship for men and enjoyed his friendships with the “Good Guys” and the “Third ” group. Barney was a member of the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, a lifetime member of Timuquana Country Club, and Vice-Commodore of the Florida Yacht Club. Barney was an avid fisherman known to many as “The World’s Greatest Fisherman.” His lifelong passion began as a young boy fishing in Cedar Creek and continued throughout the years fishing on Black Creek at the Ira Farm, spear fishing in the Bahamas, surf fishing at Ponte Vedra, and fly-fishing from the Florida Keys to Alaska. Barney enjoyed golf, traveling, the beautiful St. Johns River, Ponte Vedra beach, and the special time with Anis in the late afternoon to visit and enjoy a “twit-of-wine.” Barney entertained many with his “larger-than–life-stories” and will be remembered as an amazing storyteller to all generations. Barney loved art and was a talented painter. His beautiful watercolors will be a lasting memory of a good and kind man to his family, friends, and many generations. Barney will also be remembered for his deep concern and compassion for others. He abundantly gave his thoughts, his time, and his treasures to many, often without notice or recognition. He was indeed a loyal friend and an extremely generous man. Barney left his wife, Anis, and his family with a legacy of loving greatly, giving generously, working hard, and living life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife, Anis Ira Daley and four daughters: Margaret (Muffet) Rhyne, (Sims), Cameron Crowe (Derrill), Susan Hamner (Marty), Annie Pajcic (Curry), and 14 “very smart” grandchildren—Sims Rhyne (Lauren), Anne Clayton McCaul (Matt), and Gordon Rhyne; Cameron Estes (Claude), Charles Perry (Katie), Carson Crowe, and Cullen Crowe; Mary Annis Veazey (Brooks), Rachel Hamner, and Will Hamner; Daley Pajcic, Curry Pajcic, Winnie Pajcic, and John Pajcic; three great grandchildren: Jack Rhyne, Henry Rhyne, and Margaret McCaul; two brothers-in-law: Gordon Ira (Joice) and Stewart Ira (Eileen), and many nieces and nephews. Barney’s family is grateful to have such an enduring and loving influence from this godly and humble man. He will be greatly missed because simply put, Barney, aka Dad, Daddy, and Dada brought smiles, laughter, and love to every room he entered. A celebration of Barney’s life will be held on , 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Ortega United Methodist Church.
