Obituary: Donna Jean Regal Downey, 88, passed away , 16, 2017 at home in Colorado Springs. She was born 8, 1928 in Salem, Ohio, one of six children of Walter and Isabel (Derr) Regal. She graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Ohio. Donna married Lawrence John Downey in Tucson, Arizona on 29, 1947. In her early years of marriage, Donna was employed as a telephone operator. An ardent admirer of Emilia Earhart, she took flying lessons. Her other interests through the years included dancing with her husband, music, horseback riding, reading, sculpturing, gardening, and knitting. An accomplished artist, Donna studied at Marietta , the Famous Artists School of Fine Art, and with Charles Reid, Claude Croney, and Lyman Anderson. She showed her artwork at juried and invitational exhibits in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wyoming and at galleries and museums in Pennsylvania and Wyoming. Her artwork was sought through corporate commissions and by collectors. Survivors include her brothers Robert Regal of Chattanooga, TN and Dean Regal of Garland, TX; sisters Ruth Cording and Lillian Valdez, both of Tucson, AZ; sons Lawrence Downey of Fenton, MO and Donald Downey (Brenda) of Hollywood, FL; daughters Julie Mester (Joe) of Topeka, KS and Dona Hancock (John) of Colorado Springs, CO; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Downey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; infant daughter, Linda; and sister, Jenny. In keeping with her wishes, a cremation is planned; A memorial mass will be held at Mount Saint Francis of Assisi, at 11:00 am on the 27th of 2017 with a private inurnment following. Obituary: Bessie May Downey, 95, was granted her final wish when she was reunited with Marshall, her beloved husband of 74 years, in the arms of Jesus 20, 2015. Bessie was born on the family farm in Morton Kansas on 2, 1919. She was the fourth child of Norman and Myrtle (Coultice) Dwight. As a young child she moved with her family to Baca Colorado living at Lamport before settling near Edler. Bessie attended Edler School through 11th grade then went to Stinnet, Texas where she graduated in 1936. Following hard times brought on by the Dust Bowl the family moved to Beulah, Colorado in 1936. On 25, 1939 she married Marshall Elmer Downey of Beulah. resided in various places while he was in the U.S. Navy during WWll settling in Pueblo upon his discharge. In 1951 they moved to Englewood Colorado where they resided until 1983 when they retired to Beulah. Bessie worked for the Englewood Public Schools in the food service program for 23 years retiring as a kitchen manager in 1976. Bessie is preceded in death by her husband Marshall, her parents, 5 adult siblings, Pearl Eiland, Mabel Russ, George Dwight, Ethel Russell and Ruth Caple and 4 siblings that died in childhood Harvey, Jack, Claude and Maxine and grandson Gary Westwood. She is survived by a brother Frank Dwight of Pueblo, her daughter Elaine Owen (Carl) of Surprise Arizona, her son Bill Downey (Jane) of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and grandchildren Kathryn Zimmer, Larry Westwood, Stacie Barks and Sara Kirkham, 6 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren 1 great great great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
