Obituary: David Lawrence Langfels Sr 23,1953 - 10, 2017 Born in Warren, Michigan David Lawrence Langfels Sr was an all-around amazing man. He loved to do carpentry as a hobby. His real passion was law enforcement. David was in law enforcement for nearly 44 years of his life. Twenty of those years alone were teaching D.A.R.E. (Drug, Abuse, Resistance, and Education). David met the woman of his dreams Christine Cowen, while working at an airport police department. were married on 8, 1982. that he worked for several police departments throughout Muskegon, Michigan. Shortly there after he became the police chief for a small town in Hesperia, Michigan. David was the police chief and Superintendent of the town before moving to Colorado in 1995. David began working for the El Paso Sheriffs office inside the jail. It wasn't long before he had the first chance to get out of the jail to start teaching D.A.R.E. He taught D.A.R.E for four years with the before moving to the City of Fountain Police Department. A DARE position opened up after being on the road for a few years. David got the job and never left that position for almost 17 years. During his time teaching DARE, David became part of the CADO (Colorado Association Dare Officers) board, DARE America and served as State DARE coordinator for Colorado. David won DARE officer of the year in 2006 in the state of Colorado. He was known for doing whatever he could to get things done for his job or his family. If there wasn't a way, he would find one some how. He will be greatly missed by his family and by the community. David is survived by his Wife Christine Langfels, his children Tabitha (Christopher) Moneypenny, Megan Langfels, David (Felicia) Langfels Jr, and stepson Joseph Nielsen, also by his grandchildren Tarynne, Carsyn, and Lailah. Service will be held 20th, 2017 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 11am. There will also be a viewing at Dove Witt on 19th, 2017 from 5 to 8pm. |
