Obituary: Jack Gilbert Daniels passed away on 4, 2014 at Landmark in Yakima, Washington. Jack was born in Washington D.C. on 6, 1931 to Gilbert Monroe Daniels and Alice Carpenter Daniels. Jack attended schools in the Washington D.C. area and later studied at both the University of Maryland and Central Washington University. In 1948, he entered the United States Army Security Agency and served until 1952 as an intercept operator. Upon his discharge from the Army, he immediately began his civilian career with the Armed Forces Security Agency (AFSA). AFSA later became the National Security Agency (NSA). From 1952 until retirement in 1988, Jack held positions of increasing responsibility within the NSA. In 1969, Jack was appointed Project Manager for the development of a station for NSA in the Pacific Northwest. In 1972, he was appointed the Chief of Technical Operations of the newly built Yakima Research Station, where he served until 1977 when he was appointed the Chief of Station. He served in that position for 16 months before returning to NSA Headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland. In 1980, he was appointed to the position of Special United States Liaison Officer, Melbourne, Australia. In 1983, Jack returned to Maryland to assume a Senior Executive position with a special Intelligence Community program. Jack again assumed command of the Yakima Research Station as Chief of Station in 1985, until his retirement in 1988. During his 40 years of cryptologic experience, Jack served tours of duty in Africa, Germany, Japan and Australia. Special temporary duty assignments took him to virtually every corner of the world. He was twice awarded the National Security Agency Meritorious Civilian Service Award. In his leisure time, our father loved hunting, fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed attending the symphony and theatre, especially in London. During his youth, he spent a lot of time around the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay areas. As his own kids grew older, Dad enjoyed taking his family fishing and crabbing for blue crab in the Chesapeake Bay. In his early youth he would often roller-skate the streets of Washington D.C., where he witnessed the swearing in of several U.S. Presidents. his retirement, his passion was salmon fishing in the Pacific Ocean and the Buoy 10 area of the Columbia River. Aboard his boat The Shaker, Dad and his wife, Lavonne, spent countless days in pursuit of Chinook and Coho Salmon. Dads proudest moments were his service to his country and his family. He is survived by his children: Debra (George) Schroeder of Vero Beach, Florida; Nancy (Doug) Jewett, Chris (Deanna) Daniels, and Tom (Darlene) Daniels, all of Yakima. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Daniel Schroeder, Jessica Wick, Brandon Jewett, Corinne Winterfeld, Andrea Daniels, Brendon Daniels, Justine Daniels, Dustin Daniels, and 4 great-grandchildren (with another on the way); a brother Howard Danny Daniels of Trenton , Florida; and his first wife and friend, Barbara Daniels of Yakima. Obituary: Faye S. Daniels, 91, long-time resident of Yakima passed away peacefully early morning, 7, 2011 at Valley Regional Hospital after visits by a large number of family and friends. Faye was born 21, 1920 in St. Paul, Arkansas to George M. and Cordelia Delie (Sizemore) Teague. She married William (Bill) Daniels in 1938 in Washington Co., Arkansas. Faye and Bill moved west to Yakima in 1943 with their young son Billy and her parents to follow her sisters and their families. That same year she added a second son, Jerry, to the family. Faye said they moved west to work in the fruit and timber industries to escape the hardscrabble war-years life in Arkansas. Bill was called to service and was deployed to Germany in 1945, returned in 1946 and they lived primarily in the Wiley City and Ahtanum areas until Bills passing in 1994. Faye then moved to the Summitview Living Retirement Community and was able to overcome many physical challenges over the years to maintain an independent-living lifestyle. She especially enjoyed joining in the community festivities, attending Chapel, and visiting and helping the (in her words) old folks in the nursing facility. She could be seen scooting around the facility and down the street in her power chair after loosing a leg and the use of her car to medical problems, as a minor thing like that was not going to keep her down. Faye spent many years working in the fruit and agriculture industry in the valley and ultimately started her own successful upholstery business with her sister, Edna. operated that business until forced retirement due to health problems. Faye was an original member of the Yakima Bible Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until driving was no longer possible. She especially enjoyed leading the School Class for the toddlers. She continued to stay in touch with the members of the church to the end of her life as they were an important part of her family and faith. Until her health declined, Faye loved to hunt in the mountains west of Yakima for deer and elk and fish for salmon at Ilwaco with her family and friends. She grew a garden outside her apartment each year and enjoyed tending to it every morning in the growing season. She had a knack for growing an extraordinary hibiscus on her patio which was featured in an article in the Yakima paper this summer. Faye also did crafts as long as she was able and produced some fine examples of pine needle baskets, some of which are displayed at the Yakima Valley Museum. She loved to read historic novels and accounts of the settlement of the west and especially her Bible. At last count she said she had read her Bible front to back at least once a year for the past 12 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, Billy, her parents, three sisters, and one grandchild. She is survived by her son Jerry and his wife Marilyn of Spokane, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and many friends and relatives. She received great help and support in recent years from her nieces Alice Hein and Margaret Wade, and special friend Bernadine Davis as well as countless other close friends who helped make her life enjoyable and enable her to maintain her independent lifestyle. Mom loved family and kids. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fayes honor to The Childrens Miracle Network, 2701 Tieton Drive, Yakima, WA 98902 where all donations are used for the local childrens hospital. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. , 9, 2011 at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Service will be at 11:00 a.m. , 10, 2011 at the Bible Baptist Church at 6201 Tieton Drive Yakima, WA. The burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. are under the care of Keith & Keith . under the direction of Keith & Keith , Yakima, WA.
