Obituary: James (Jim) Thomas Daily passed away 8, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. Jim was born in East Grand Forks, Minnesota to George and Phoebe (McIlraith) Daily. He had two brothers, Jerome Daily and William Daily, and three sisters, Mary Schmidt, Madeline Schmidt and Phoebe Crissey. graduating from Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Minnesota, he received a bachelors degree from Saint Johns University, ville, Minnesota in 1940. Jim moved from North Dakota to Wapato, Washington in 1941 and was employed by the National Bank of Commerce. When WWII broke out he entered the US Army in 1942 and served in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. While under enemy fire, his unit, the ss Engineers Heavy Pontoon Battalion, constructed the first floating bridge across the Rhine River. He returned to civilian life and Wapato in 1946 after the war ended in 1945. In 1951 Jim married Alice Ruth Weishaar in Yakima, Washington. Together they raised two sons, Tim and Tom, and two daughters, Mary and Donna. He ultimately became manager of the Wapato branch of the National Bank of Commerce and spent many happy years meeting the financial needs of the local community. He retired in 1981. Jim provided many years of service to the Wapato community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 133, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wapato Library Board and past president of the Lions Club. In Yakima, he belonged to the Yakima Kiwanis Club, serving as chair on the parks committee and was very proud of his involvement with the Kiwanis Park project during his tenure on the committee. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Yakima Valley Regional Library and as a trustee for a total of 11 years. He was a board member for State Friends of the Library. He was a devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He and Alice loved to entertain and had a group of friends that would meet at least monthly for dinner or playing bridge. His loving wife Alice of 37 years passed away in 1988. Following her passing, he kept himself busy with family and friends. He loved music and dancing and was a voracious reader. He also enjoyed traveling with his friend Ed Rankin. had many fun adventures together, especially their Caribbean and Panama Canal cruises. Jim is survived by his children, Tim and Jerri Daily, Mary and Neal Schlect, Tom and Elizabeth Daily and Donna and Stan Hauck; grandchildren, Jaime and Joe Daily, Mike Schlect, Evan and Jerrod Daily, Heather and Justin McGee, and Alex Hauck; great grandchild, Landon McGee; brother William Daily, Buena Park, California, two sisters, Madeline Schmidt, Morris, Minnesota and Phoebe Chrissey, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice and daughter-in-law Jenelle Daily, parents, George and Phoebe Daily, brother, Jerome Daily, and sister, Mary Schmidt. In lieu of flowers please send memorials in Jims name to the American Heart Assoc. There will be a visitation 4-8 pm, , 11, 2014 at Keith and Keith , 902 W.
