Obituary: Virginia "Ginny" (Contardi) Dahlke, 92, of Yakima, Washington, went to be with the Lord, 29th, 2014 with her daughter by her side. Ginny was born in Yakima, Washington on 27, 1921 to Hugo & Pierina Contardi where she grew up on a dairy farm. She graduated from Yakima high School in 1939. In 1940, she married the love of her life, Ken Dahlke. Being a homemaker, gardening, cooking, collecting antiques, decorating her home and being an accomplished seamstress were some of Ginny's loves. She belonged to the Treasure Questers Antique Club, was a member of Grace of Christ (First Presbyterian) Presbyterian Church, and worked for Department Store for 20+ years where her customers became her friends. She volunteered for several years in the Yakima Valley Museum gift shop and worked on many of the quilts sewn for fundraisers, but most of all, Ginny loved being with her family. She and her husband, Ken, moved to Englewood Heights Retirement in 2002 where they reunited with many of their old friends. Ginny always welcomed new residents and never knew a stranger. She loved her personal caregivers and always knew a story about each and every one of them. Ginny genuinely cared about others. She had an unbelievable memory up until her death. She memorized phone numbers, birthdates and special occasions of loved ones and most stories she was told. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Dennis) Green of Yakima, Grandson Brad Green of Bellevue, & Granddaughter Jenifer (Brian) Busey of Yakima. Four great-grandchildren, Garrett Green, Lexi Green, Jesica Busey and Michael Busey. She was one of five children, having three sisters and one brother - her only surviving sister ( Batt) is 91 and living in Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews who she loved dearly. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the ACU nurses & staff at Yakima Regional Hospital for their exquisite, loving, care for Ginny over these past two weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Young Life or La Salle High School. Services will be , 4th, 2014 with the burial beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park and the service at 11:00 a.m. at Grace of Christ (First Presbyterian) Presbyterian Church. Obituary: Rayleen Joan Dahlke (Riley) passed quietly of COPD on the morning of Nov. 18, 2010, in Vancouver, WA, at the age of 77. Born Dec. 8, 1933 in Ft. Morgan, CO, to Raymond and Hazel Riley; named after her father. She spent most of her youth growing up in Downey, CA. As a child during WW-II, a major event in her life occurred when she answered the doorbell one afternoon, and didn recognize her father standing in a Marine uniform, returning without a scratch from the battle of Iwo Jima. When her Dad returned from the war, it wasn just a major event, it was probably the happiest day of her life in my opinion. I can imagine how all of our lives would have been affected if my Grandfather had been killed in the war. Following graduation from Downey High School in 1951, she studied piano at the Chicago Conservatory. She soon married her high school sweetheart, Jesse B Henderson, and had two sons, Jess and Gary. She later remarried Robert Dahlke, and had a third son, Joseph. Her great loves were her family, country music, boating the Columbia River, and animals; especially horses, cats and dogs. She helped her parents raise quarter horses in Northern California, and became an excellent horseman. Always one to help stray dogs and cats. Her mother enjoyed telling the story of Rayleen as a young girl, becoming very upset as they drove past a small brown dog about to get hit by traffic. Rayleen raised such an overwhelming fuss that her mother was forced to stop the car and rescue the dog, which promptly became the family pet. Rayleen instilled her love of animals in her three boys. She seemed happiest while married to her third husband, Larry Lee. Together, they owned a small trucking company in Portland. For several years they operated one of their trucks on cross-country trips, along with their dog, giving Rayleen the opportunity to travel the entire United States, which she loved very much. did a lot of boating while the kids were growing up. She had many close friends, all of whom knew her as a fun, kind, and often stubborn person. In later life, her greatest joy was having her grandchildren nearby. She is survived by sons Jess and Joe, and grandchildren Amber, Krista and Sean, who love and miss her very much. Guest Book comments may be posted on Vancouver Chapel.net.
