Obituary: Walter P. Diesing, 86, of Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on , 03, 2016. Walter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy J. (Cochran); brother Roger (Joan) of Wilmington, NC; four children (the 4 Js), Jeff (Rhonda) of Colorado Springs, CO, Jim (Liz) of Portland, OR, Jessica of Southampton, NY, Jay (Jeanne) of Southampton, NY; grandchildren, Duane, Kendra, Connor, Kathleen, Emma, Kyle, Megan; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Walters childhood included Boy Scouts, baseball, and working at his fathers store; Diesing Supply CO INC. graduation from Poughkeepsie High School in 1947, he joined his father at the familys expanding business. From 1951-1953, he served his country as a US Army gunnery school instructor. While on leave from Ft. Benning, GA, he married the love of his life, Dorothy. Following his honorable discharge, he settled back in Poughkeepsie where he and brother Roger built the family business into the Hudson Valleys largest auto parts store. Although he worked at the store from 7 AM to noon , Walter found time to follow his passion; flying. During a 25 year period, he completed commercial, instructor, multi-engine ratings, and he accumulated over 4000 flight hours. He became co-founder and operations officer of Sky Acres Airport in Millbrook, NY. retiring from Diesing Supply in 1988, Walter and Dorothy moved to Seabrook Island, SC. hosted many wonderful parties for new and old friends alike. As our family grew, Seabrook became a wonderful family vacation destination. In 2007, Dorothy and Walter moved to Windsor Meade in Williamsburg until his passing. Walter was devoted to Christ. As a Deacon/Elder at Poughkeepsies Dutch Reformed Church, to his volunteer work at Williamsburgs Bruton Parish, Walter rarely missed a service. Well past retirement, he supported Habitat for Humanity and he helped build many homes on the rural islands near Seabrook. Walter was a former member of the Red Oaks Mill Fire Department, New York State Wholesalers Assoc., Poughkeepsie Chamber of Commerce, AOPA, and numerous Exchange clubs. Living with advanced Alzheimers, Walter inspired others to serve. Whether pushing a fellow residents wheelchair, or helping the Windsor Meade staff, he never stopped giving back. He was truly loved by his caregivers. As a family man, Walter will always be remembered for his selfless love. From annual spring break vacations to Clearwater, FL, to summer trips to Montauk, Long Island, he meticulously planned and piloted us there. The family would like to thank the entire Windsor Meade staff for their love and care during Walters two year stay at the health center. Dorothy would also like to thank the Windsor Meade community for their love and friendship. A celebration of life will be held on , 10, 2PM, at Windsor Meade Celebration Hall, 3900 Windsor Meade Hall Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Obituary: Charles Newton Diesel, 86, of Great Falls, VA passed away peacefully on , 15, 2017 at the Brightview Senior Living Community. Born in Thermopolis, WY to Paul and Margaret (Auter) Diesel on 28, 1930, he lived most of his early life in Craig, CO. As was the case with most families in those days, times were difficult. During the depression, the family lived and worked on his grandfathers ranch and lived in various towns in western Colorado as construction work became available. During World War II, the family lived in Denver where his father found work in a munitions factory. At the end of the war, the family moved back to Craig. Upon graduating from High School in 1948, Chuck received a scholarship to attend the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. During his year at Mines, he received an appointment to the US Naval Academy and entered as a plebe in 1949. graduation from the academy in 1953, Chuck served on the USS Oriskany for a year before entering the Naval Submarine School in New London, CT. Following his graduation from Submarine School, he served 13 years in the submarine forces aboard the Blackfin, Tiru, Sam Houston, Tunney, and Perch. During that stretch, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Norfolk, Groton, CT, and Bremerton, WA. The family moved to Annandale, VA in 1967 where they put down roots. During his final 10 years of active duty, Chuck served in various assignments in the Washington, D.C. area. He retired after 24 years in 1977 as a Commander. Following his navy retirement, Chuck worked for several military contracting firms in the metro area. While attending Submarine School, he met his wife, Stephanie (Stevie) Pultorak of Worcester, MA. were introduced by Chucks submarine school roommate, Bud Fakoury, and Buds future wife Ellie. Ellie and Stevie worked together as nurses at a local hospital. The two couples remained life-long friends. Chuck and Stevie married in , 1955 and had five children. were married for 46 years until Stevies death in 2001. Chuck is also predeceased by his daughter Susan Margaret Diesel. Survivors include his younger brother, Joe Diesel (Ann) of Sunnyvale, CA, sons Tom Diesel (Linda) of Waynesville, NC and Jim Diesel (Libby) of Durham, NC, daughters Stephanie Staggs (Rick) of Columbus, OH and Mary Krom (Kevin) of Fairfax, VA, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Maggie. Devout Catholics, Chuck and Stevie were among the first families of St. Ambrose parish. For many years, he organized and coordinated mens retreats for St. Ambrose. He was the Troop Committee Chairman for BSA Troop 1942 in Annandale in its early years and later served as the advisor for Explorer Post 1942 in Annandale. One of his proudest accomplishments as a father was that both of his sons attained the rank of Eagle. He also served as the Treasurer of the WT Woodson HS SPTA. Chuck enjoyed word puzzles and always had a good story to tell. He took a keen interest in the lives of his grandchildren and always encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams. Chuck will be remembered by his family and friends as a man of great generosity, strong family values, and a wonderful sense of humor. |
