Obituary: Charles Nicholas DeRose LT Colonel, US Army (Ret) 20, 1932 - 7, 2017 On 7, 2017, peacefully in his sleep. In his recliner. watching a baseball game. Charles Nicholas DeRose was born in Washington, PA. He was one of three sons born to Charles and Irene DeRose. He dreamed of playing major league baseball and played on a farm team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and was accepted to Officer Candidate School. He served in Korea and Vietnam in the Army Corps of Engineers. His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces (1966-67), the Army Commendation Medal (1970), and the Legion of Merit Medal (1973). He married Barbara Gettig on 19, 1953, and they had three sons, each five years apart. Chuck was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered as a true gentleman, always at the ready with a compliment or helping hand. He wore many hats during his lifetime. Serving in the US Army, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1976. He went on to work in the offset printing business and then obtained his license to work in commercial real estate management. During this time, he and Barbara founded a small business manufacturing and selling outdoor furniture and decor. closed this business after ten years only to form Monarch Travel & Cruises and this kept them both quite busy with work and travel. had the opportunity to travel to the ends of the earth and back, and enjoyed every minute! Another of Chucks loves was the water. In the late 1970s he resurrected an old Steel Craft 47 cabin cruiser that had sunk to the bottom of the marina. He fully restored her and named her Bunch of Roses. We enjoyed that boat for probably close to a decade, during which time Chuck also served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Chuck also had a passion for wine. He took every course he could to learn about the craft of winemaking, and he successfully made quite a few of his own vintage. We will cherish those remaining bottles! He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Gettig), three sons Craig (Andi), Mark (Deirdre) and Eric (Cressie), and grandchildren Christopher, Mara, Jessica, Nicholas, Courtney and Sean, and his brother Robert DeRose. He is predeceased by his brother Francis and his mother, Irene and his father, Charles. Pap Pap, we will miss you! Obituary: Ralph R. DeRosa, 69 of Williamsburg, Va., played his final golf round and passed away suddenly on , 3. A devoted husband, father, and friend to everyone who shared his company, he is survived by Michele, his wife for almost 39 years, sons Hammel Louis Ham DeRosa of Los Angeles, Ca., John Nicholas Nick DeRosa of Richmond, Va., sisters Carol Lambiotte and Diana (Mike) MacPherson, brother in law John (Tami) Morello, nephews Mike MacPherson, Joe MacPherson, Paul Lambiotte, Tony Morello, and nieces Lexi and Alaina Morello. He will be deeply missed by his family, numerous close friends, and co-workers. Ralphs course through life took him on a varied journey on which he shared his time and talents on many challenges. Born in New York and raised in Staunton, VA, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force before beginning a steady march to numerous career successes. A graduate of Christopher Newport University, he earned a MBA degree from Golden Gate University, and worked in banking, as a stock and commodities broker, and in real estate as a sales manager and developer. He was than more just a land developer; he brought communities to life. He had a keen eye for what it took to make a development attractive and a place that families would want to call home. The list of places he helped bring to life is a roll call of some of the most well-known community developments in the region \ Fords Colony, Wintergreen, Albemarle Plantation (in North Carolina), Stonehouse, Governors Land at Two Rivers, which he helped to start, and Fawn Lake, where he worked for 13 years and was most recently the General Manager and Senior Vice President of NTS Virginia. He was a broker with the Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors and President of the Williamsburg Association of Realtors. But Ralph will always be best remembered for his outgoing and playful personality, for his laugh, and for the way he put his family at the center of everything in his life. On occasions too numerous to count, he opened his arms, heart, and home to his extended family and the many close friends he always treated as family. The family will receive guests at Nelsen and Crematory, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on , 7.
