Obituary: Wilbon Harrison Daniel, professor of history at the University of Richmond from 1956 to 1992, died at his home in Richmond on . He was 91. Born in Lynchburg, Va. and raised in Bedford, Daniel was the second of six children. He attended New London Academy, Lynchburg , Vanderbilt and completed his Ph.D. at Duke University, where he wrote on Confederate army chaplains during the Civil War. A specialist in Southern church history, Daniel was also an ordained Baptist minister. He taught American history at Virginia Intermont in Bristol, Va., where he met the young biology teacher from North Carolina who would become his wife of 63 years, and at both Vanderbilt and Duke before coming to Richmond. At U of R, he taught Civil War and Reconstruction, as well as a variety of other American history courses and seminars. He published extensively in his field, as well as in a field he had loved since he was a boy: baseball. Daniel's books include a biography of his favorite childhood player, Jimmie Foxx, and a book with Scott Mayer on the beginnings of organized baseball in Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; their daughter, Anne Margaret and son-in-law, James Pethica of New York; his brothers, Bill and Carlyle; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, and forty years of students, for whom he remained always grateful. There will be a memorial service for Harrison on , 3 at 1 p.m. at River Road Church, Baptist, 8000 River Rd. Obituary: Robert Lewis Daniel, 86, answered Gods call on 25, 2015. He was born 1, 1929 in Arcadia, NC, the ninth of fifteen children born to Maggie Kapp Daniel and Marvin Faw Daniel. Bob moved to Newport News in 1953 to work at the NNSB&DDC as a burner. Later he worked for the PSA union and afterward as owner of Bobs Steel Fabrication. Bob was a down-to-earth man with many talents who took much delight in the simple things of life. He had a heart of gold and was full of life and laughter. Known for his generosity, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was born in an era when integrity defined a man, and he was that man. He was the great protector of his family and never failed to show his unconditional love for them. His family is left with the rich inheritance of that love. The love we hold for our husband, father and grandfather will live forever in our hearts. The family is grateful to everyone who touched his life along his journey. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mabel Garner Daniel, and their daughters, Kay Daunheimer and Donna Ferrell; grandchildren, Hugh, Max and Haley (Peanut) Ferrell; sisters, Doris Sullivan, Edith Slawson and Pat Kirby, all of North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and his much loved Garner brothers and sisters. His sons-in-law, Jim Daunheimer and Michael Ferrell predecease him. The family will receive friends on , 29, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood . A celebration of Bobs life will be held , 30, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
