Obituary: Robert George Downard 1, 1925 – 17, 2011 Robert G. (Bob) Downward passed away peacefully in his home on 17. With the love of his life by his side and supported by family and friends, Bob was reunited with loved ones who preceded him. Bob, a World War Two Veteran, was a devoted son, supportive brother, loving husband, dedicated father and beloved grandfather and great grandfather. Bob was the second of four brothers born at home to George Leo and Ida Warren Downard in Price, UT. Intelligent and vivacious, he started a beet farm as a 6 year old, revealing his smart business sense. He attended school in Price and spent time breaking horses and herding cattle with his uncle. He ran track, played the alto horn and banjo. Throughout the rest of his life, Bob would prove that he could tackle anything and would master it. At 18 years of age, Bob joined the military service by enlisting in the Army. He served in World War Two in various European countries. While recovering from wounds, he lost his unit to the Battle of Bulge. He also received a Purple Heart. He then served in the CIC until the end of the War. Immediately upon returning from the War, Bob married his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful love of his life, LaVern Elliott on 10, 1946 in Provo, UT. In the next 10 years, Bob and LaVern built a house in Orem and had three children, Robert Dennis, David Edwin and Diane (Downard) Preator. Bob worked as a night shift supervisor at the Utah State Mental Hospital and as a dispatcher for Mountain Fuel Supply (now Questar) until retirement. Upon retiring, he and LaVern traveled often enjoying their time together. Over the years Bob served faithfully in the branch presidency to a rest home and in various other callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an avid sports fan, tended a large garden with many fruit trees, and nurtured many quail over the years and protected them from the many neighborhood cats. In fact, over the years, Bob collected quite a menagerie of animals including lambs, chickens, ducks, pheasants, dogs, a porcupine and the list continues. Bob loved hunting deer and pheasant and spent time training his dogs well. With his sharp mind, sheer determination and two strong hands there wasn anything Bob couldn build. Beloved by his grand and great grandchildren as the cutest grandpa on earth, Bob leaves behind his legacy to eight grand children and fifteen and counting great grand children. Loved by all who knew him, Bob also leaves behind a large band of adopted family whom he dearly enjoyed knowing and visiting with. He is preceded in death by his brothers Glen and Warren Downard and Douglas Downard (infant), and also by his son Robert Dennis Downard. His loving wife LaVern Downard survives him. Services will be on Oct 22, 2011 at the chapel located at 800 East and 1500 South in Orem, UT. A viewing will start at 10:30am and the funeral will be held at 12:00pm. Interment will commence at Provo City immediately following the funeral. |

Obituary: Marilyn passed away peacefully on , 24, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Draper after a short battle with cancer. She was born 1, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hillard Arthur and Sophia Smith Maxfield. She was the 5th of 7 children and a graduate of South High School. She married Earl Dowland, 19, 1947. She was the proud and devoted mother of 8 sons and a dedicated and loving grandmother. She was a member of the LDS church and a long time active member of the PTA. Marilyn and Earl enjoyed numerous trips across the United States in their motor home with dear friends and relatives. She was a very thoughtful person, always remembering many, many people with cards for all occasions. Survived by her sons Mike (Marcia), Jeff (Linda), Tim, Tom (JaNean), Bob (Cyndy), Randy (Janet) and Jason (Christina), daughters-in-law Jeanie and Royetta, 27 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, sister Eileen and sisters-in-law Earlene and Doris. Preceded in death by her husband, sister Norine, brothers Dick, Arthur, Bob and Paul, son Dennis and her grandson Tony. services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on , . 1, 2015 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy.
