Obituary: George L. Denton, Jr., our father and role model, passed away 15, 2015. He was born in Salt Lake City to George L. and Leonie Neuhausen Denton on 21, 1920. Dad attended schools in Magna and Salt Lake City and graduated in history from the University of Utah, where he met and wisely proposed to Barbara Straub. He attended the University of Utah Law School until 1942, when he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre, including the Aleutians, Kwajalein and the Okinawa operation, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star as Commanding Officer of the minesweeper YMS427. Returning from the war and with a new bride, he found a job in 1946 with First Security Corporation, where he spent his entire career. He started with on-the-job training in the Investment Department. His activities expanded throughout the organization, retiring in 1990 as Executive Vice President and a member of the Management Committee. At the time of his retirement, he was responsible for all investment-related activities, asset and liability management and funding. He was Chairman of First Security Investment Management Inc., First Security Discount Brokerage Inc., and President of First Security Investment Services, Inc. In the community he served on the Board of Trustees of the Utah Medical Foundation, was Chairman of the Board of the Utah Heart Association and a member of the board of the American Heart Association. He was on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation, serving as chairman for six years, receiving the Norman and Barbara Tanner Service Award from the Utah-Idaho chapter. Dad and Mom were strong supporters of the University of Utah, Dad serving on the of Humanities Advisory Board and was the recipient of the colleges Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2002 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Communication. His professional activities included memberships on the Utah Governors Committee on Investment of State Funds and Fiscal Policy in 1962, as well as various committees of the Utah Bankers Association. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Salt Lake Stock Exchange, a member of the board of the American Bankers Association, Bank Investments and Funds Management Committee. He was a founding director and member of the board and Executive Committee of the investment firm BHC Financial from 1983 until 1997, when it was acquired by Fiserv. He also was a member of the Advisory Board of the Investment Management School, Stanford University Graduate School of Business for ten years. From 1965 to 1989, he was one of nine members of a national round table sponsored by Brown Brothers Harriman to discuss interest rates, markets and the economy. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, serving as President. He was a member of the Fort Douglas/Hidden Valley Country Club and the Alta Club, serving on the board and as Treasurer. Dad also was a proud member of the Dirty Shirts. But for more than his professional and service accomplishments, Dad will be remembered for his integrity and honesty. When meeting people, hed prefer asking them about their lives than talking about himself. Generally a dignified man, he could go on laughing jags that would bring him and everyone within earshot to tears. Although he sometimes saw the world from a different angle than his sons, he relished the challenge of a debate, and respected and loved them for the paths they chose to follow. Dad had an incredibly active mind, always running. He loved to travel with Mom and friends, and inevitably found himself assigned as tour guide. He could not drive by a dog or cow in the Intermountain West without issuing a greeting. his busy working years ended, he enjoyed the pleasures of his grandchildren, perhaps catching up on the small things he might have missed with his boys when he had to entertain visiting firemen. Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, Barbara. He is survived by his sons Craig L. (Margaret), Thomas G. (Susan) and Robert B. (Jane) and his grandson Lucas. He also is survived by his step-grandchildren Gavin Harris (Natalie), Stacie essault (John), Star Sanderson, Chris Monroe (Reneé), SSG Kevin Monroe (Adrianna) and many great-grandchildren. The family wants to thank the kind people of Options Personal , and especially Maria Carr, who provided devoted, loving care to Dad and Mom over the past seven years. There is no nobler, giving soul. There will be a memorial service celebrating Dads life at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1710 So. Foothhill Drive, at 3:00 p.m. on , 22. The family will host a wake later that day. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you contribute to a charity of your choice. Condolences can be left at the Evans and Early website. |

Obituary: Patricia Cecilia Denslow passed away 6th at her daughters home in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Pat was born in Salt Lake City to Allan and Betty Isenhour Denslow, the eldest daughter of four children. Pats mother once described her as a sweet, loving child, almost too good to be true. These words continued to describe Pat throughout her life. She was one of the kindest, most forgiving and genuine people who ever lived. She had a unique skill of making everybody feel loved and welcomed. She could never be heard saying a disparaging word about anyone. Every life she touched was brightened by her gentleness, compassion, and effortless humor. At the same time, she was also an exceedingly strong woman. Her gentle nature made it very easy to forget the hardships and tragedies that she endured during her life. She never let anything defeat her, and always came out the other side of any trial with grace and love in her heart. No matter what life threw at her, Pat remained guileless, even gullible. She always expected the best of people. Pat started her career as a school teacher at Nibley Park Elementary here in Salt Lake City, where she taught for eight years. She excelled at this, but Pat found herself drawn to the world of labor organizing. Even though she had no experience, a single letter written to the head of the American Federation of Teachers secured her a position which would lead her on adventures around the world. As a prominent member of AFTs hierarchy, Pat worked tirelessly not only to improve conditions for teachers around the world, but also for causes of social justice, such as when she spent time working on national and local elections in the country of Georgia. But in spite of her success, Pats pride and joy was always her family. She was an extremely devoted and doting mother to her three children, Judith, Rachel and Adam. The only thing she may have loved more than her children were her two grandsons, Sam and Zach. She was also like a second mother to the three children of his sister and best friend, Mary. Pat was always willing to give everything of herself to make the people she loved happy. She was fiercely protective of her family. Whatever Pat decided to do, she always jumped in with both feet. She was a passionate music lover, especially folk music. She played the guitar and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved antiquing and thrift shopping, and was great collector of many things, including wind-up toys, Navajo pottery and unique rocks. She loved to study religion, history, art and geology. She especially enjoyed learning about new cultures. When she traveled to new countries, she didn want to stay in the touristy areas, but wanted to get to know the locals. She was also a huge Star Trek fan. And she positively adored animals, especially her little poodle friend Trixie-Lee and her two cats, Little Girl and Trouble. She was always willing to try anything once, which sometimes got her into trouble, like when her brother Mark talked her into bungee jumping on her 50th birthday. She loved to be the center of attention, even though she wouldve denied that. Pat was a wonderful, fun and unique woman who will be missed more than can be expressed. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter Rachel, her mother and father, her brother Mark, and her Uncle Dave, Aunt Ruth and Aunt Dorthe. She is survived by her children Judith Danaceau (John) and Adam Walton (Monica); grandchildren Samuel and Zachary Danaceau; siblings Mary Denslow (Doug) and Reynolds Al Denslow (Lonna); nephews Jared (Marie), Justin (Amber) Aaron and Isaac (Marylou), and niece Laya (George), and by many friends and other family members, none of whom will ever be quite the same now that shes gone. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Pat Denslows name to the YWCA, a cause that was very dear to her heart. Donations can be made at https://www.kintera.org/site/c.cuIRJ7NTKrLaG/b.7515947/k.918D/Donate_Online/apps/ka/sd/donor.asp? Graveside services will be held , Sept. 9th at 10:00 am at the Salt Lake City . |
