Obituary: Megan Leigh Duren began her new life on 6, 2003 at the age of 19. She was born on 18, 1984 in San Antonio. She was a freshman at Texas State University, San Marcos. She was an active young woman, who took exceptional interest in community service, especially with children. Megan was a beautiful person who enjoyed life and spent time with family and friends in many activities, including church, camping, boating, shopping, etc. We will miss her, but have trust that she resides with our Lord in paradise. She is survived by her parents, Sheila and Mark of Helotes; brother, Ryan, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duren, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vyvlecka, all of Jourdanton; aunts and uncles, Ross Duren, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Vyvlecka, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Welch, Barry Vyvlecka; and cousins, Lauren, Heather, and Allison Vyvlecka, Cullen and Kasey Welch.

Obituary: Jack Daniel Duren, age 90, passed from this Earth on , 20th, 2015. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on 28, 1924 to John B. Duren and Annie (Hodge) Duren. He attended school in Trinidad, excelling in school so much he completed twelve years of education in only ten and was at the top of his class. He was accepted to a scholarship to any college or university in Colorado, and chose his alma-mater, Colorado School of Mines, as a petroleum engineering major.
World War II intervened during his college days, and he was called into the Army, and assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers, and moved up to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Heavy Equipment Maintenance and Construction unit stationed to the Pacific theatre of the war, where he oversaw the construction of many runways needed for the air support for the war.
the war ended, Jack returned to finish his education, and after graduation, was employed by Shell Oil , where he spent his entire professional career. He was transferred to many offices and locations during his early days, but one assignment led him to Great Bend, Kansas, where he met his one true love, Francis (Toni) Buchannan, and they were married and lived together in happiness for 56 years until her death in 2006.
In 1956, Jack and Toni welcomed their only child, an adopted daughter, into their life, and they were complete in their vision of their family.
Jack was always passionate about science, and engineering, and was one of the founding members of SPWLA (Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts), and served as its president in 1971, the year that he proudly saw the organization expand into the international world.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Wells, of Arlington, grandson Tony Wells and wife , of Tulsa, OK, granddaughter Telisa Richardson and husband Michael, of Boise, ID and great-grandsons Devon Wells and Hunter Flowers.

Obituary: Gwen H. Duren, 83, went to be with the Lord on 9, 2011. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Duren Jr. and Gertrude Phillips.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Schattel and husband Edward, Carolyn Turley and late husband Charles; grandchildren, Karrie Williams and husband Devin, Mitchell Demny and wife Donna, Chris Demny, Edward "Trey" Schattel III, Kevin Schattel; great-grandchildren, Dustin Williams, Dalton Demny, Carolynn Demny, extended family, Doug Siemans and wife Ginger, numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwen was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star; she enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

Obituary: Colonel Elton W. Jack Duren was born near Glasgow, Missouri, on 25 1917 to Hardie and Ota Quinley Duren. He died in San Antonio, Texas, on 14 2010. His early years were spent on a farm before moving to Marshall, Missouri, in 1926 where he attended elementary and high school. leaving high school in 1934 he was employed by the International Shoe in Marshall where he worked until World War II appeared on the horizon. Joining I of the 138th Infantry, 35th Division, Missouri National Guard on 8, 1938, marked a turning point in his life. Attending National Guard Summer Camps in Missouri and Minnesota was the start of training for what was to come. The Missouri National Guard was federalized 23 1940 and moved to Camp Robinson Training Camp in Early 1941. Entering federal service as a Corporal, he was soon promoted to platoon Sergeant. On 31 1941 he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. During World War II he met Frances Allen and they married on 25 1946. He was to remain in the Army until retirement in 1972. Highlights of his career included 2 years overseas duty in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, four years in Germany with the 18th Infantry of the 1st Infantry Division and Seventh Army Headquarters, returning to the USA in of 1952 as a Major. He was immediately put through a refresher course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and then assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Combat in Korea. A highlight of his Germany tour was the birth of daughter, Torsten Gaye, on 18 1952. She now lives in Blacksburg, Virginia. Following the Korean War, he attended the Command and General Staff in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1954-1955, and then went to Washington, D.C. for four years where he was assigned to Joint Task Force Seven, whose mission was to test atomic devices in the proving grounds in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. During this latter four years he was able to complete college work with the University of Maryland where he obtained a B.S. Degree in Military Studies in 1959. His next assignment took him to Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma where he served four years as PMS of the ROTC. This was followed by an assignment as U.S. Army Attache to the Kingdom of Nepal. language and orientation training in Washington, D.C. for several months, he and his family finally arrived in Nepal in 1964, where he would serve for two years in this Mountain Kingdom. He was promoted to Colonel during this assignment. His wife, Frances, served as a Volunteer Assistant to the Medical Staff in the Mission Hospital. His daughter, Torsten, attended Junior High School at an American School in Kathmandu during these years. The family had occasion to visit not only the scenic areas of this Himalayan Kingdom but also India. A visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra was one of their most memorable trips. In 1966 he was assigned back in the USA to Fourth Army Headquarters at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he served until retirement in 1972. During the first five-year period he was Primary Staff Officer for the Junior and Senior ROTC Programs for the five-state Army Area. This included about 120 High Schools and 45 s and Universities. In 1971 he was named Deputy Chief of Staff for Reserve Forces which included ROTC, National Guard, and Reserves for the then Fifth Army area. Retirement occurred in 1972 at the historic Quadrangle at Fort Sam Houston. He was awarded the Legion of Merit at this ceremony. Subsequent to retirement he worked for about six years as Assistant Vice President at Texas State Bank and for about eight years for Commercial Equipment Leasing . Survivors include daughter Torsten D. Sponenberg and son-in-law D. Phillip Sponenberg of Blacksburg, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances A. Duren, and his sisters Marguerite Kellogg of St. Louis, Missouri; Opal Davis of Fayette, Missouri; and Maxine Douglas of Leavenworth, Kansas. MEMORIAL SERVICE
