Obituary: A loving, Christian, “old school” father, “Da”, “Honey” and “Unc”, Marlin Ray Downey lived his humble life building a family legacy that will last a lifetime for generations to come. Marlin touched many lives with his quiet, witty and unassuming nature, all the while courageously battling a weakened heart. His heart may have been weak physically, yet ironically, it was the strength of his spiritual “heart” that made him the man his family respected most. Marlin was born in Irene, TX on 25, 1936 and went home to Jesus on May 17, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Marlin Downey was a respected engineer for T.I./Raytheon for 40 years. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Marlin loved woodworking, reading and singing Christian music in his church choir. Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bee Downey; his daughter, Tammy and husband, Ben Hogan; son, Mark Allen Downey and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Maci and husband, Cody Drown and Derian Downey; great-grandchildren, Dixon and Dane Drown; brother-in-law, Jim O’Bryant; sister, Sandra Mims; many cherished nieces and nephews; and many “brothers and sisters” from the Corsicana State Orphan’s . He was preceded in death by his parents, Duward and Jewel Downey; siblings, Jetta Gray, EvaLetta Parker, Claude “Dew” Guidry, Billie Rawls, Cleophus “Tex” Downey; sister-in-law, Betty O’Bryant; nephews, Donnie Gray, Dean Gray and Jimmy O’Bryant; nieces, Sandra Phillips; many “sisters and brothers” from the State Orphan’s . Obituary: Karen Louise Shand Downey, 76, passed away Oct. 9, 2014, at her home in Amarillo, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 2, 1938, to Maxine Staley Shand and Clyde Shand in Waukegan, Illinois. The family moved to Amarillo in 1951. Karen graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955. She married James Jimmy Arthur Downey Feb. 15, 1957, in Amarillo. In 1962, their son, Terry Tad Arthur Downey was born. Jimmy Downey passed away in 2011. Karen retired in 2012 from M & L Transfer & Storage / Allied Van Lines where she was operations manager for many years. In this role, she met many people who became close acquaintances. Karen was a tough cookie with a generous heart. In the end of her life, she also had the companionship of her dog George. She loved exotic animals and had parrots, iguanas and other unusual pets at various times in her life. She loved collecting pottery, making ceramics, and painting still life images. She long ago taught arts and crafts at the Hobby Shop. She knew a lot about Amarillos history and its citizens. Her favorite quote was We live by our choices. She loved to read Baxter Black and above her desk, she had hung one of his columns, titled, Just Keep on Ridin. We all will miss her. Survivors include one son, Terry Tad Arthur Downey, granddaughter Tambra Downey, grandson Ryan Downey, two grandchildren Autumn Wilson and Jeremiah Wilson, her mother Maxine Shand, and sisters Linda Shand Hopper and Elizabeth (Beth) Shand Turner. Known as KK to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Karen also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. The family will have a private service at a later date. |

Judy grew up and graduated from High School in Belleville, Illinois and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. The family moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1972 and then to Mapleshade, New Jersey in 1980. moved to Dallas from Cincinnati, Ohio in of 1984 and Judy completed her accounting career in May of 2009 after working for T.D. Industries for 20 years. A member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Community in Plano she had also been active in the Association of Women in Construction. Described as a "people person" her interests centered around her love of family, animals and the sport of ice skating. Obituary: Hulene Downey passed away on 12, 2016 in Missouri City, Texas. Born in Goose Creek, Texas on 17, 1929, Hulene was a devoted wife to her husband and supportive mother to her two sons. Early in life, Hulene worked first in communications and later in real estate with her husband. Her compassion and dedication as a caregiver knew no bounds during the last three years of her husband Arthurs life as he battled Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease. Hulene is survived by her sons, John Wesley Downey, David Wayne Downey and his wife Carol, step daughters Alice Troppy and her husband Jerry, and Laura Van Tronk and her husband John. Her husband Arthur and sisters Joyce Anderson and Peggy Fleming and her brother Donald Anchick preceded her in death. Hulene will always be remembered for her positive attitude, encouragement and nurturing of others, especially friends and relatives who found themselves in trying times. Her persistence and optimism were most evident in the last three months of her life as she bravely faced the medical challenges of advanced years. Her life motto was Keep on keeping on.
