Obituary: Jack Dix, the only son of Milton and Olga Dix was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 25, 1924 and died on 13, 2009. He grew up in Stillwater, Minnesota where he was active in debate, speech and won the State Extemporaneous speech contest. He served in the Air Force in World War II and while stationed in China realized his first love of broadcasting as an announcer for Armed Forces Radio XJOY. Knowing this was to be his future he attended The Brown Institute in Minneapolis and after graduation came to Columbus, Mississippi as the sports and news reporter for the Mid-South Network and broadcast the first Dixie Bowl Game in Memphis, Tennessee. He never lost his love for sports but with the advent of television saw his future in sales and eventually became National Sales Manager for WFAA in Dallas and then moved to San Antonio as General Sales Manager for KSAT where he retired in 1991. His biggest regret was that he wasn born in Texas. He participated in several trail rides to prove it and was a life member of the S.A. Livestock Assoc. He loved his family, his friends and his interests were many and varied: church, cars, parties and hunting. He rode in several Century Bike rides, was president of The Dallas Pistol Club, and SA Addy Association. He was on the vestry of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas and St. Lukes in San Antonio where he was head of the usher team. While in Columbus, he met and married Mary Maye Goodrich Brooks and they spent 63 years happily together. Their 2 daughters were Tate Akin of San Antonio and Jill Haiden Cole who died in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Maye; Tate and his grandsons and their families, Joseph, Jennie and Jacob Cole, and John, Tanya, Carter and Kaci Cole of Dallas, and James Akin of Austin.
