Obituary: Janet Dirnberger, 90, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on 31, 2013 with her three daughters at her bedside. Those who knew her describe Janet as a caring and loving person who unselfishly offered help to those in need. As a dedicated mother, she instilled these same values in her five children: Laurie Metzler (Austin, Texas), Christine Middleton (Wimberley, Texas), Larry Dirnberger, Jr. (Lago Vista, Texas), Monica Rasco (Wimberley, Texas), and Joseph Dirnberger (Kennesaw, Ga.). Born Jeanette Kathyrn Drumm on May 15, 1923 in Buffalo, NY, during a late season snow, she was the youngest child of Joseph Charles Drumm and Mary Otillia Florence Gable. Janet fondly recounted memories of her childhood including her father playing Alexanders Ragtime Band on the harmonica and frequent 40-mile treks to her Aunt Ceils farm in a Model A Ford. And she was proud of achieving first violin status in her high school orchestra. Her parents, brother Joe, and sisters Dorothy Yax, Marie Yax, and Margaret Monnie Herdlein all predeceased her. Janet married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Andrew Dirnberger, on 26th, 1944. The first months of their marriage were spent happily in Bangor, Maine and Boston, Mass., where Larry received training as a Naval officer and radar technician. Their first daughter, Mary Louise Laurie, was born in Buffalo, NY, while her father served on a ship in the Pacific as WWII was ending. When his ship docked in San Diego a few months later, Janet traveled across the country by train with her mother-in-law and young child so Larry could meet his daughter for the first time. Larrys work as a chemical engineer for DuPont meant the family moved frequently in the early years of their marriage. Following the war, their first home was a converted army barracks in Berea, Ohio where a second daughter, Christine Mary, was born. Three years later their first son, Lawrence Andrew, Jr., was born in Wilmington, Del. And two years later in Fanwood, N.J. another daughter, Monica Marie was added to the growing family. a short stay to Richmond, Virg., the family settled for 12 years in Westfield, N.J. and there their last child, a second son, Joseph Martin, was born. In 1968 the family made a final move to Timber Cove, a residential community south east of Houston, Texas. With a canal and boat dock at the edge of their backyard, Janet and everyone around her enjoyed many happy hours boating, fishing, and swimming. Proximity to NASA meant that many neighbors were astronauts and the family soon became caught up in the excitement of the space program. Proximity to the Gulf Coast allowed Janet to spend many happy hours at the beach with her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren fondly remember feasting on fresh crab pulled from the canal, water skiing in Taylor Lake, and long days spent jumping through the waves on Galveston Island. With her nest emptying, Janet blossomed as she began pursuing her own interests. As the Administrative Assistant for the El Lago Water District, she pioneered their first computer billing system. She joined the local Garden Club, became an active member in a study group that challenged her mind, worked with children with reading difficulties, and volunteered at the local food bank. She and Larry also began visiting relatives within the U.S. and traveling overseas to places including Germany, Israel, and Egypt. Larrys retirement, together they pursued her lifelong interest in genealogy. As her children grew, she often recounted stories that had been passed down to her of ancestors who traveled by sea from Germany to forge new lives in America. In pursuit of her and her husbands family histories, Janet studied German at San Jacinto and compiled a booklet titled New Jersey Catholic Baptismal Record From 1759 to 1781 which is used by genealogists to this day. On their trip to Germany they located towns ancestors came from, visited the houses they had lived in, and even met distant relatives whose side of the family had stayed in the old country. A few years after Larrys death on 14, 1998, Janet moved with her oldest daughter Laurie to Austin. The move meant she was now living in close proximity to most of her children and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janet is survived by five children, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the kind staff of Beckett Meadows who cared for Janet in her later years. All who knew her will surely miss Janets warm smile and loving presence. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on , 6, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, located at 4800 Convict Hill Road in Austin. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on , 7, 2014 at the Mt. Olivet in Dickinson, Texas. |

Obituary: Dr. Kenzer Jeryl Dirkson, M.D., Retired Lieutenant Col., age 63, passed away on , 30, 2013 in San Antonio. He was born on 6, 1949 in Lebanon, TN to parents, Fannie and Rubert Dirkson. Dr. Dirkson graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Chemistry. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was the Chief of Staff & Reconstructive Surgery at BAMC. Dr. Dirkson was an avid traveler, humanitarian, and healer and was a loving father to his children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Lynn Dirkson; and parents. Kenzer is survived by his wife, Carolyne Rice-Dirkson; sister, Cynthia B.
