Obituary: Elizabeth Ann Colville Dinwoodie passed away on 7, 2015 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born on 9th, 1935 in Rahway, NJ to Donald and Rennie Colville. She grew up in the town of Fanwood, NJ until her parents moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1949. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1953 and then graduated from Duke University with a BA in Spanish in 1957. While at Duke University, she met her future husband, John (Jack) F. Dinwoodie, and they were married 27th, 1956. Ann taught high school Spanish for a short time till her first son, David, was born in Durham, NC in 1958. In 1959, the young family moved to Baltimore, MD and a second son, Douglas, was born in 1961. The family moved briefly to NJ, but eventually to Houston, Texas in 1963. A third son, Donald, was born in 1963. Jack became employed by IBM, the family moved to Clear Lake City in 1966. Ann became actively involved in the boys activities, especially with the NASA Area Little League Woman's Auxiliary. Jack was transferred by IBM to NJ in 1972, and the Dinwoodie's relocated in the town of Chester, NJ. In 1973, Jack and Ann decided to start their own business, Video Specialties , and they moved back to Houston. Video Specialties' early emphasis was in the sale and rental of educational video programming. Ann played an important role in the business by keeping the books. As the years went on, the business became geared towards home entertainment. The Dinwoodie's opened a retail video store in Town and Village in 1981, which closed in 1988. In addition to being involved in the family business, Ann also joined a women's service sorority, Beta Sigma Phi and was a member of Houston Aggie Moms Club. Jack and Ann retired after closing their business, and in 1989 they moved to Pecan Grove in Richmond, TX. By that time, they had already started traveling to many places in the world. When not traveling, they enjoyed playing bridge with friends and spending time with their grandchildren. Jack died in 1996, and Ann eventually moved back to Houston. She continued to travel extensively. In 2004, Ann and her son Doug bought a house in Fulshear, TX. enjoyed life at Weston Lakes for several years before Ann's diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease in 2007. Ann is survived by her sons David and Douglas, her daughter-in-law Cheryl, and grandchildren Anna & Andrew. She is also survived by her sister Jane and sister-in-law Judy. She is preceded by her husband John (Jack) Dinwoodie, her youngest son, Donald Dinwoodie, her parents Donald and Rennie Colville and her brother Donald Colville Jr. Ann's family would like to thank all of the people who assisted Ann while she struggled with Alzheimer's disease. A special thank you goes to the staff of Colonial Oaks @ Westchase, where Ann received loving care during the last six and a half years of her life. A memorial service for Ann will be held at Memorial Oaks on 27th at 12:30pm. A brief reception will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers, Ann's family suggests making a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association. |
