Obituary: Services for Frank Taylor Devereaux, 92, of Diboll, will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 29, 2015 in the Gipson Chapel, with Pastor Keith Broyles officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Frank was born 13, 1922 in Alto, Texas, the son of the late Clara (Powell) and Jim Bill Devereaux. He passed away , 25, 2015 in a local hospital. He attended Elementary school in Diboll and Junior High and High School in Lufkin. He was the co-captain of the 1940 Lufkin Panthers football team. Frank received his Bachelor and Master of Education Degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Permanent High School Certificate and an Administrative Certificate. In 1945 he attended Baylor University in Waco on a football scholarship and played football on Baylors starter team. graduation he coached high school football and was High School Principal and Superintendent. He retired from Cleveland Independent School District in 1983. Frank served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He flew 60 missions as a bombardier on a B-25 Bomber. He was wounded on his 22nd Mission by a piece of flak. He was stationed in Corsica and Italy with 310th Bomb Squadron and 57 Bomb Wing. He was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation, Soldiers Metal, Purple Heart Medal, six Air Medals, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, and participated in four major campaigns resulting in 4 Battle Stars, Victory Medal and World War Victory Medal. Frank was recalled into service for 29 months during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Johnnye Carter Devereaux of Diboll; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Susan Devereaux of Belleville, Michigan; and stepson, Jimmie Michael Mize and his family of Austin. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Bill Devereaux, Jr. and Charles Devereaux. Pallbearers will be members of Dibolls First United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Roscoe Ivy, Dr. Dan Spivey, Eddie McFarland, and the members of the 1938 Lufkin Panther Football Team. Expressions of sympathy may be made in lieu of flowers in Franks memory to First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Hines, Diboll, TX 75941. Franks family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Pinecrest Retirement Community for their care for him during his stay there.
