Obituary: Mr. Jesse Arvel DeShay age 97, entered eternal peace on , 11, 2015 at the Resolute Hospital in New Braunfels, Tx. Jesse (better known as Deek was born on May 15, 1918 to William and Ruth DeShay of Cedar Creek, Texas. He graduated from Houston Tillotson with a Bachelors degree in Education and received his Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from Prairie View A&M. God, Family, Sports, Poetry, and Music played a very important part of his life from a very young age. He wears many hats but several stand out.. He was a teacher, a counselor, talented poet, deacon in the church and the list goes on. Serving God has always been his priority-and he was not afraid to let anyone know it. Greater Bethel Baptist Church was where he served from 1965 to 2015. He remained faithful and dedicated the entire time from serving on the trustee board, to the deacon board to the choir, and anywhere else he was needed. And even if he wasn on a committee, he still had something to say! During his life, he had the opportunity to play semi-professional baseball for the Dallas Black Giants and although he was not a professional tennis player, --he would beg to differ and challenge anyone to a match! Teacher and Coach are the other hats Deek had the privilege of wearing in his lifetime. Some students thought he was tough at times, and some knew it-but either way, they knew Coach DeShay loved them and wanted the best for them. In 1976, writing poetry became second nature to him-His first poem, entitled My Experience with the Lord was written while he was in the hospital and since then, he wrote a little bit just about anything and everyone. In most cases, if you made contact with him, there is a poem about you amongst his many writings. No promises on whether its good or bad, but it is written! One of his biggest dreams came true in him getting his poems bound together and copy written-and hes even sold a few copies. Hired as a Master Counselor at Gary Job Corps in 1965, Deek began a new chapter in his life by counseling young men daily-and taking them under his wing-or adopting them as his own. Once the center started enrolling young ladies, that just increased the number of adopted children for him, and he took on the name PAPA.He noticed a need for spiritual guidance at Gary Job Corps and was allowed to coordinate chapel activities on campus where the Phillipian Gospel singers were born. Papa and the singing group traveled almost 3,000 miles a year to go and minister thru song as he did some public speaking. In spite of the massive amounts of himself he gave to others, Bro. Deshay made time to provide a wonderful home for his wife, children, and grandchildren. A home filled with spiritual guidance, compassion, joy, love, and not to mention endless pranks that kept everyone alert at all times. But served as a constant reminder of his love. In his later years, Deek slowed up but never gave up! Even though he may not have remembered alot, he always gave us something to smile about after being in his presence. God was always in control in his life and now he has the privilege of being home with his heavenly father. Now he knows for sure that there is PLENTY GOOD ROOM - AND HE CAN CHOOSE HIS SEAT AND SIT DOWN He was predeceased by his wife Samie DeShay in 2008, his son Jesse Jr., and his Daughter Rena. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his daughter, Birdie, Son-in-Law, Darrin, Son Darryll and his wife Sherri; his son, Herbert, great granddaughter Jamiliyah, and his grandson, Kyle, and granddaughters LaNique, Nina, and Sacha as well as a host of nieces, and nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to loved ones, friends, family, and Greater Bethel Baptist church. Special thanks to Resolute Hospital in New Braunfels, for the love they showed-not only to Deek but to the friends and family that visited. Aaron, Pamela, Janice, Jeremy-you are angels. |

Obituary: Melba Joy Desha, 90, passed away , 19, 2012, at a local medical center. services will be 10:00 a.m. , 25, 2012, at Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel, with Richard Henegar officiating. Burial will follow in Round Mound at 1:30p.m., directed by Community , 1443 North 2nd Street, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Melba was born 18, 1921 to John William Usry and Mary Ethel Wall Usry in Emory, Texas. She graduated from high school in 1939 in Emory, Texas. Melba married David L. Desha in of 1943. She served the Lord in ministry with her husband David for 67 years and was actively involved in World Bible School. Melba was an avid reader of Christian fiction; a homemaker; and an excellent cook. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. Melba was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who passed away in of 2011. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Ann Rudolph and husband, Charles of Abilene, Sharon Kay Henegar and husband, Richard of San Diego, California, and Davida Larene Bland and husband, Lee of Abilene; sister, Letha Mayes of Abilene; grandchildren, Charles Todd Rudolph, Melissa Desha Willis, Carrie Beth Jones, Matthew Edwin Rudolph, Jessica Alise Traver, Charity Ann Renfroe, Amy Larene Rodgers, Daniel James Henegar, Jeremy David Maxwell, and Brandon Howard Maxwell; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Obituary: Doreen Florence DesForges was born on 28th, 1922 as the first of seven children to Jonas and Florence Standley in Portland, England. She attended Portland School that was on top of the hill near where she grew up and graduated from high school at 15 years old. From there, Doreen went to college for two years in Weymouth to obtain a Liberal Arts degree. On Match 7th, 1940, Doreen joined the English Navy (W.R.N.S.). While serving during WWII, she was stationed on the HMS Boscawen in their communication department but was able to remain living at home with your family. This allowed for the opportunity to meet her future husband while waiting for the Navy Bus to pick her up for work. Doreen met Joseph Albert DesForges (a U.S. Navy medic) outside the hospital (which was a hotel that was converted into a hospital for the duration of the war) where he worked. a few meetings she and Al (Joseph went by Al, by the way) began dating later in the year of 1943. Then they became engaged; but, while the wedding was being arranged Al received orders to return back to the U.S. Therefore, the wedding plans had come to a halt. However, that little pause did not last long. Doreen was soon discharged from the English Navy on 9th, 1945 and was able to move in with friends in London, England in order to be closer to the American Embassy. While there, she worked as a telegraphist and was able to make arrangements to come to the U.S. It took her two years of running back and forth with paper work to get signed and submitted before she was able to catch a flight over to the U.S. arriving in the U.S., she moved in with Als grandmother in Central Falls, RI and was hired at the telephone company as a switchboard operator shortly after settling into her new home. On 2nd, 1947, Al and Doreen were married and moved to Cleveland, OH so that Al could attend medical school. Doreen was able to transfer through the telephone company upon her move to Cleveland and was given a new position as a teller and trained as a service representative; during which, she became a U.S. citizen. Doreen and her husbands time in Cleveland came to an end, they moved to Houston, TX in 1952. With this move, she was once again able to transfer to Southwestern Bell. In the fall of 1956, Doreen gave birth to their first and only child, Denise, and was able to take leave for a short period of time. Fast forward nine years, Doreen was made a special representative to Shell Oil with the telephone company and stayed with the company until her retirement in 1985 at the birth of her daughters second child. In 1991, Al passed away but Doreen lived well on as the familys matriarch until her death in 2014. |

He was a strongly religious man and self made successful salesman. He was a member of the 3rd Order Knights of Columbus.
