Obituary: Fort Worth -- Frances R Denmon, 99, passed away , 8, 2012, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Frances Rosetta Warren Denmon, the youngest of nine children, was born to the late Whirter Henry Warren and Ella Frances Stovall Warren on 13, 1913 in Fort Worth, Texas. Frances was united in holy matrimony to the late Arthur Lee Buck Denmon on 2, 1944 in Parker , Texas, but they resided in Ft. Worth, Texas throughout their lives. To their union, one precious child was born, Audrey Denmon Hester, also of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Frances received Christ and baptism in her early life. She was a member of the now historic, Greater Saint James Baptist Church, established in 1875. Her mother, Ella Frances, was one of the early members and helped to build and establish the church. For as long as her health permitted, Frances was actively involved in church activities, including serving on the School Board and regular participation in the Baptist Training Union and Vacation Bible Schools. Although Frances was born and raised Baptist, as she grew older she renewed her spiritual faith which led her to the Pentecostal faith. In 1975 she united with Liberty Temple Church under the leadership of Rev. W. A. Bond. In 1991 she became a Charter Member of the New Life Worship Church under the leadership of Rev. Randy A. Lescalleet. She was an active and faithful member.

Frances obtained her primary and secondary education in the Ft. Worth Independent School District, graduating from I. M. Terrell High School in 1933. She then attended Prairie View A&M . She later received numerous certifications in continued education, including a vocational certification in Business English from the Fort Worth Public School System; a certification as a Assistant through John Peter Smith Hospital; and certification through Tarrant Junior in the industry. She was employed by the Family Service-Travelers Aid Association under the United Way of Tarrant in the Field, working in hospitals and homes, until her retirement at the age 63.

Part of Mrs. Denmons early career included serving her country through the United States Civil Service as a Civilian during World War II. She was trained in the state of Washington as a Parachute Packer for the United States Army Air Forces, and then on to the Central Flying Training Command at the Ft. Worth Army Airfield, where she became a licensed Parachute Packer. She was ranked as an expert in this field. This is where she also received certification in specialized courses in blueprint reading and technical orders related to parachute packing.

Shortly after marriage, Frances and her husband Buck, owned and operated a small family business, which was a tire service for large rig commercial trucks. Frances played a significant supportive role in this business, working closely with her husband. She was highly skilled in office management and clerical skills, particularly bookkeeping, typing and shorthand.

Mrs. Frances Denmon was a hard worker. It is also noteworthy to mention that as a young woman, she was the first African-American Elevator Operator at the upscale Monnigs Department Store, once located in downtown Ft. Worth, during a time when racism was at its peak. Frances was active with various civic and community services, including serving on her community voter registration committee during the decade of the sixties. She was a strong proponent of education and was heavily involved with the Parent-Teacher Association. One of her greatest contributions in the life of her daughter, Audrey, was her staunch support in all of Audreys educational endeavors. Mrs. Denmon sacrificed a great deal in order to provide the best education possible for her daughter.

Frances tried to be a friend to everyone, regardless of age, education or social status. She was always opening her heart to help others. She was a mentor to numerous young women, providing them tremendous guidance and teaching them basic skills of home and family living. Frances enjoyed domestic family life, which included cooking, baking and keeping an immaculate house and well-manicured lawn. She loved caring for her family. She and her husband enjoyed some travel and were a vital part of a close-knit social set of friends. She was a trendsetter in womens fashion, and her incredibly ageless beauty was admired by everyone around, young and old alike. Frances was a wonderful mother, wife, sister and aunt. She adored her family and they all loved her deeply. She lived a life filled with integrity, generosity and compassion. She was warm and kind to her fellowman. Of all the contributions she made in life, her highest concern was that of living the life of a Christian, caring and doing for people.

Frances loved life and was always a lady, but make no mistake about it, she was feisty. Ninety-nine years is a long time to live. Since 1913 the U.S. population has more than tripled, going from 92 million to over 315 million people. Frances has seen 25 leap years and lived thru 17 United States presidents. She was a registered voter up until her death and was blessed to live long enough to vote for Barack Obama, Americas first African-American president. However, being born only two generations post-slavery, her maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather were slaves. Those were tough times. During her life, she was faced with many struggles and battles on a personal and national level. She survived the Roaring Twenties; the Great Depression of the thirties; two World Wars; and lived through the strictest Jim Crow segregation. But she was not a person who was easily broken. Her inner strength and fierce determination enabled her to strive, to persevere and to overcome many obstacles and hardships. Frances was a diehard survivor. Yet, through it all, she remained perpetually youthful. Her quick wit and beautiful smile will be missed by everyone who continued...
