Obituary: Mr. Jeffie Donald "Don" Deaton passed away , 4, 2014, at his residence near Cushing, Texas. He was born 8, 1940, in Cookville, Texas, to parents R. V. Deaton and Elsie Gentry Deaton and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Formerly from Omaha, Texas, Don had lived in the Cushing area several years and was an electrical superintendent. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. Don was preceded in death by his parents. His survivors include his wife, Jan Deaton; daughters, Cammie Deaton Mancuso and husband Dan, Connie Deaton Zimmer and husband Mike, and Kelly Deaton Moorhouse and husband Errol; step-daughter, Staci Jill Martin; step-son, David Neal Wommack; a sister, Donna Jean Deaton; grandchildren, Crystal Taylor and husband Lance, Colton Moorhouse, McKenna Moorhouse, Haylee Womack, Brody Martin, and Kyndal Martin; and great-grandsons, Cash Taylor and Crew Taylor. His family also includes a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 13, 2014, at Mahl Baptist Church, located at 12304 U.S. Hwy. 259 North in Nacogdoches , Texas, with Pastor Robert Easterling officiating. An additional service will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 20, 2014, at Harrison Chapel in Naples, Texas, with Pastor Nolan Richey officiating. Obituary: MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR GIL DEATON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2014 2:00 P.M. FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 572 W. SAN ANTONIO STREET NEW BRAUNFELS, TX May 20, 2014, Mr. Gil's wish was granted. He was welcomed into Heaven by his Savior. Gil was born on 31, 1917 in Boston, Mass., and passed away on May 20, 2014 in New Braunfels. In St. Louis, MO. on Sept. 16, 1932, at 15 years of age, Gil joined the National Guard of the United States of America. He then left the National Guard at age 18. When our country once again asked our young men to serve, he joined the United States Army. Mr. Deaton served his country until , 1945. Discharged as Sergeant, he was recognized with several medals and accomplishments including the WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, 3 Overseas Bars, Victory Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. On 31, 1953, Gil married the love of his life, Miss Barbara A. Crawford. married in Dallas, Texas. traveling for a few years, they settled in Arizona. Gil found his true calling in serving the public as a law officer. He served as Deputy Sheriff for several years. Training and public relations were high on his list. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant and many proud years of dedication. retirement, Gil and Barb traveled extensively, always finding ways to volunteer their time and talents. Mr. Gil gave his time as a volunteer in police departments in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. settled in New Braunfels and quickly found much to occupy their time and many talents. Their time was dedicated to the First United Methodist Church, New Braunfels Public Library, New Braunfels Police Department, McKenna Hospital, and New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. Gil was predeceased by his parents, one sister, and his very special friend and brother-in-law, Col. Tom Crawford. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 61 years, Barbara C. Deaton, son Mark Deaton of Arizona, sister-in-law Sandra Crawford, and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by special friends DA and Carol Witherell, NJ Bercaw, John and Elaine Ruiz, Family of Don and Becca Yates, "The Other" Barbara Todd, also Pastor Harold Sassman and friends from the FUMC.
