Obituary: DAVIS, JOSEPH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Joseph Shuford Davis passed away peacefully at 3:06 am, , 5, 2014, at the age of 89. Born on 30, 1925, in Clarks, Nebraska to John and Beulah Davis, Joe was next to the youngest of 9 children. He graduated from York High School in York, Nebraska, before joining the Texas National Guard to serve his country in World War II in the Philippines and Guadalcanal. He was honorably discharged from service with 3 purple hearts and 1 bronze oak leaf cluster. healing from extensive war injuries, Joe attended Baylor University where he carried the tuba in the Golden Wave Band and met his beautiful bride. Upon graduating from Baylor University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, he attended LSU and earned his Masters degree in Education. Joe taught in the Louisiana public school system for many years, serving subsequently as principal and assistant superintendent. Later in his career, he became a medical text book editor and travelled the country visiting university medical schools until his retirement in 1997. Joe loved people and never met a stranger. He was a jokester with a dry sense of humor that kept everyone around him laughing. Honey as his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him, loved baking, being with his family and watching sports, particularly college football. He is survived by daughters, Sandra and husband, Bill Youngblood, Anne and husband, Jeff Kunde; and son, Jeff Davis and wife, Cindy. He is much loved by nine grandchildren; Laura Fitzgerald and husband, Brian, Jeremy Youngblood and wife, Grantsie, Jessica Ozanne and husband, Sloan, Cheryl Kunde, Ryan Davis and wife, Samantha, Shelby Davis, Hannah Davis, Jaycee Davis, and Hunter Davis; his four great grandchildren, Kellen and Clarissa Fitzgerald, Caden Pevehouse and Dillon Ozanne, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Janelle, his parents and 8 brothers and sisters. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30-10:30 am on , 11, 2014 at Restland . Military Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 am at Inspiration Garden in Restland Memorial Park. |
