Obituary: Charles Goodrich Davis, Jr. passed away 24, 2003 at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mavis and Charles Davis. Charles was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School and Texas Tech University and was a practicing Certified Public Accountant. He was a member of the San Antonio German Club, the San Antonio Country Club, the Town Club and the Friends of the McNay. He is survived by his wife, Linda Lee Worsham Davis; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and John Colglazier; nephew and niece, John and Jennifer Colglazier Jr. and Elizabeth and Cooper Boddy; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, John and Helen Worsham; nephew and niece, John and Jennifer Worsham III. He also has two daughters that reside out of town. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to San Antonio Lighthouse, 2305 Roosevelt, San Antonio, Texas 78210 or to the charity of their choice. |

Obituary: 12, 1927 - 13, 2012 Charles was a devoted husband and father.a man of integrity. Survived by his wife, Doris Davis of Dallas; daughter, Eva Bell of Pleasanton, CA; and sister, Ada Weatherread of Dallas. Charles was born in a small community in East Texas.South Sulpher. He attended school in Fairlie and Commerce, before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served his country in the European Theatre as a message coder and decoder in the Signal Corp. returning home to Commerce, Charles attended East Texas State Teachers where he graduated with a BA (1950).Followed by a Masters degree in Math and Education. (1954) Charles taught school for 35 years. He was a teacher at Nathaniel Hawthorne in Dallas for 23 years.where he was named teacher of the year. He had a passion for inspiring students and instilling the desire to learn. His first assignment after graduating was as a principal and district teacher in Delwin, Texas.a one-room school for all grades. Then, he moved to Greenville and taught at Peniel, Texas as principal and math teacher. He settled in Dallas in 1962 where he taught at Hawthorne and retired in 1985. retirement, he and his wife, Doris traveled throughout the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and from Canada to Mexico. He also worked part-time for Adesa Automobile Auction for twenty years before finally retiring again in , 2012. Charles was a member of Central Nazarene Church. His warmth, wit and Christian spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. |

Obituary: Charles Hamilton Davis, Private, Mississippi National Guard; Pilot Officer, Royal Canadian Air Force; Major, United States Army Air Forces; and Colonel, United States Air Force, retired, crossed the bar on 13, 2006. Colonel Davis was born 28, 1915, in Nashville, Tennessee, but spent his youth in Laurel, Mississippi. At the age of 15, he became the first Eagle Scout in Jones , Mississippi. Desirous of joining the fight against Nazism and Facism in Europe prior to the United States entry into World War II, he journeyed to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot. Upon U.S. entry into that war, he was transferred to the U.S. Army Air Forces. Colonel Davis flew B-17s in Europe during World War II, and also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, retiring in 1966. Colonel Davis was a long-time member of Churchill Baptist Church in San Antonio. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mary Louise Collins Davis; his daughter, Deborra Backlund and husband, Michael Backlund of San Antonio; his son, Charles Hamilton Davis IV and wife, Barbara Small Davis of New Braunfels; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to World Vision, Inc., P.O. Box 70172, Tacoma, Washington 98481-0712. |
