Obituary: AUSTIN -- Alice Clark Davies, 62, of Austin, TX, passed away peacefully on , 28, 2010 due to complications from cancer. : 12:30 p.m., on 3, 2010 at Moore , 1219 N. Davis Drive in Arlington, with interment at Moore Memorial Gardens. She was born on , 29, 1948 in Fort Worth, TX to Walter, Sr. and Mary Davies. Alice enjoyed her childhood years in Columbus, OH and Tulsa, OK. She attended Oklahoma State University for two years, graduating in 1970 from Southern Methodist University with a degree in political science. completing postgraduate studies for teacher certification, she taught social studies, mathematics and computer technology in the Dallas and Austin Independent School Districts. Upon retirement, she worked in the offices of Dr. Keith Busse and Dr. George Thorne. Her fervor for social justice inspired her participation in the Young Democrats of Texas, Mark Whites gubernatorial campaigns, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Many close friendships developed through her volunteer efforts in the Womens Symphony League and the Austin Womans Club. Alice was preceded in death by both her parents and her sister-in-law, Catherine Davies. She is survived by brother Dr. Walter M. Davies, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Tulsa, OK; sister, the Honorable Judge Mary Scott and her husband Dr. Don Scott of Seattle, WA; sister Elizabeth Ann Allred and her husband Dr. William Allred of Tulsa, OK; brother Dr. Roland Davies and his wife Dr. Jenefred Davies of Austin, TX; brother John Davies of Arlington, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Memorial contributions may be made to a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Humane Society in honor of Alices deep respect for the work of animal shelters. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seton Hospitals Intensive Unit and especially, Dr. George Thorne for his guidance and loyal spirit. |

Obituary: James Monroe Davie, age 74, passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest among friends and family on FatherÂs Day, 18, 2006. He was born 23, 1932, in Englewood, New Jersey, to the late James H. and Mary Louise Morris Davie. Jim grew up in Charlotte, NC, and took to an early acting career, receiving awards for playing in numerous musicals and Shakespearian roles during high school; performing at the Barter Theatre in Abington, Virginia as a Shakespearian actor for two years; and culminating on Broadway starring with Helen Hayes in the production of ÂMrs. Thing. He left his acting career to attend college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel HillÂ.an institute he was proud to attend, since UNC Chapel Hill had been founded by his distant forefather, William Richardson Davie, first governor of North Carolina. While attending the Georgetown School of Foreign Service, he began a career with Braniff Airlines serving Latin America . He moved to Mexico City after graduating in 1957, and distinguished himself by becoming the youngest Vice-President in BraniffÂs history at the young age of 31. It was in Mexico City that he first met Arlene in 1963. were married the following year. then took a daring leap of faith, moving to San Antonio, TX, and founded their business, Travel Planners, Inc., in 1966. never looked backÂ.and with their friends and colleagues became one of the most successful and respected meeting and travel organizers in the country, having coordinated conventions for groups such as the American Bar Association and the World Convention of Churches of Christ. Jim was intensely interested in expanding travel services, and over the decades, helped found new travel companies in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Hawaii. Through his decades of extensive travel and networking, he and Arlene have extended and maintained friendships across the globe. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Arlene; two sons and their family: Mr. Chris Davie of San Antonio; Dr. James Davie and his wife Maura Sommer and two grandchildren, Ruth, 1 year old, and Madeline, 4 years old, of Allentown, PA; his sister, Mrs. Diana Davis and brother-in-law Mr. Gene Davis of Gastonia, NC; two nephews: Dr. Keith Davis of San Diego, and Mr. Mark Davis and wife, Susan with one grandnephew, Hunter, and one grandniece, Emily, of Gastonia, NC. She was born , 1, 1936, in New York, to the late Nicholas and Anna DiGiorgio. Arlene grew up in New York, and attended Pace University. It was in Mexico City that she first met James Monroe Davie in 1963. were married the following year. moved to San Antonio, TX, and founded their business, Travel Planners, Inc., in 1966. Obituary: Zeldon Joel Davidson Jr. passed away in Lubbock on May 14, 2015, after a brief illness. Family visitation will be held , May 17, 2015, from 2-4 PM at George Price . services will be held at 10 AM on , May 18, 2015, at Second Baptist Church with burial following in the City of Levelland . Joel was born in Levelland, Texas on 8, 1944 to Zeldon (Slim) Davidson and Maude Davidson. He spent two years in Vietnam with the U.S. Army in service to his country. He married Saundra Hankins on 27, 1968, who preceded him in death. He married Sandra Thetford on 12, 1988. He retired from Amoco after 26 years of service and spent some time in Arizona, and ten years on Lake Brownwood before moving back to Levelland in 2005. Joel was very active at Second Baptist Church and enjoying his grandchildrens activities. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Davidson; children, Brian (Allison) Davidson of McKinney, Texas, Terry (Chuck) Colburn of Gurnee, IL, Cary (Krenna) Thetford of Arlington, Texas, and Mike Thetford of Plainview, Texas; sister, Mona Lawson of Levelland, Texas; brother, Ron Davidson of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren, Sandy Davidson, Kevin Colburn, Andy Colburn, Kade (Somer) Thetford, Keighen Thetford, Karis Thetford, Jordan Thetford, Austen Thetford, and Taytem Thetford; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Zeldon Joel Davidson, Sr., Rebecca Maude, and Sandy Davidson. The family suggests charitable donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity. |
