Obituary: Pawleys Island: Margaret Tucker Dieter, 91, died , 9, 2015, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown. Mrs. Dieter was born in Darlington on 1, 1923, a daughter of the late Roy Hardee Tucker and Roland Jenkins Tucker. She attended public schools in Sumter, attended Columbia , and graduated from the University of SC. Mrs. Dieter represented the state of SC with the Columbia Choir at the National Collegiate Choir Competition and won the national title in 1941. At the University of SC, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and was active in many other collegiate organizations. graduation, Mrs. Dieter worked in New York for Eastern Air Lines. In 1945, she married Lt. Jonathan Lucas Dieter and moved to Columbia, where they lived for 25 years. In 1974, Mrs. Dieter and her family moved to Pawleys Island and lived on the island in the family home. In Columbia, Mrs. Dieter worked with interior designer Dora Gray. She was a charter member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, where she set up a model church kindergarten. At Pawleys Island, Mrs. Dieter was a communicant of All Saints, Waccamaw, Episcopal Church, where she was a founding member of its church school board, a member of the altar guild, and active in various other church organizations. She enjoyed tennis, golf, birding, fishing, and being involved in church activities. Mrs. Dieter was chairperson for the church sponsored Christmas in event. From childhood, Mrs. Dieter was a lover of music and art. She was a member of the Georgetown Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winyah Chapter of Colonial Dames, where she served as regent for years, and a member of the Georgetown Memorial Hospital Womens Board. Mrs. Dieter, ASID, opened the first year-round interior design shop, Island Interiors, at Pawleys Island in the early 1970s. Surviving are: her husband of 69 years, Jonathan Lucas Dieter, Sr. of Pawleys Island; two sons, Dr. Jonathan Lucas Dieter, Jr. (Jan) of Conway and Tucker Dieter (Kimmie) of Pawleys Island; four grandchildren, Margaret Lucas Adams (Reid) of Charleston, Jonathan William Dieter (Lauren) of Pawleys Island, Caroline Dieter Bush (Dan) of Atlanta, Ga., and Roy Tucker Dieter, Jr. of Columbia; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joy Tucker Segars of Sumter. services will be held at three oclock on afternoon, 11, 2015, at The Abbey at Pawleys Island. Officiating will be The Rt. Rev. Charles H. Murphy, III, assisted by The Rt. Rev. C. FitzSimons Allison. Burial will be private. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Church. Obituary: Opal Louise Diemer LEXINGTON - Memorial services for Opal Louise (Droddy) Diemer will be held on at 4:30 p.m. , 10, 2016 at the Lowman Chapel, Wellness , 2101 Dutch Fork Rd., Chapin, SC 24036 with inurnment at 3:30 p.m. on , 11, 2016 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. Opal died peacefully in her sleep on 5, 2016 in Columbia, SC. She was born 10, 1924 in Charleston, West Virginia. She met and married her beloved husband Arthur William Diemer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Charleston on 25, 1950. He preceded her in death in Charlotte, NC in the year 2000. She is survived by her son, Paul Arthur Diemer and his wife, Barbara, of Columbia, SC; grand-daughter, Jessica Cannon (Eddie); and great-grand-children Austin and Eli of Concord, NC. Her daughter, Liddia Elisabeth Stevens of Urbana, IL has a son, Aaron Marriott, (wife Chelsey) and twin great-grand-children, Lincoln and Ronin. Liddia also has a daughter, Sidney Madelain Louise Stevens. All reside in Champaign-Urbana, IL. Throughout Arthur's career the family had the opportunity to live near New York, NY, Boston, MA, Detroit, MI and Charlotte, NC. In all places they lived the family was exposed to museums, plays, and live orchestral music, among other things. Arthur and Opal enjoyed a good deal of international travel. Opal was predeceased by her parents, Liddia Mae Humphreys Droddy and Esman Earl; brothers, Earl Francis and Donald Floyd Droddy; her cherished sisters, Leda Mary, Marguerite Arlene Gaithley, Paula Lunette Kay and Iris Bossie. Faye Virginia Frazier is the last surviving sibling. Opal derived great pleasures in keeping up communications and visiting with siblings, nieces and nephews including Linda and Sandy, Andrew and Debby H., Suzanne and Tom B., Butch, Bobby, Janet, and David, Tom F., Don, Earl, Marcy and David, Roger, Dianne and Fred and Debby D. Opal and Art had a love of God that never wavered, and they always enjoyed sharing their love of God with others. Opal's dining room table was always open to family, friends and strangers; but, by the end of her dinners, there were no strangers. We were all family and friends. We don't know if you would call her a gourmet cook, but all of her meals were delicious and there were never any complaints. In her later years she loved to bake cookies, banana bread and cakes and share them with friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 107 Westpark Blvd., #150, Columbia, SC 29210. May she rest in peace with her husband, Arthur and God.
