Obituary: COLUMBIA Selma E. Dickman recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. She passed away peacefully on 11, 2015, at her home in Columbia. Selma was born and raised in New York City. She was the daughter of Jacob and Clara Blick. She graduated from Hunter and taught in the New York City school system. Selma moved to Columbia in 1950 with her late husband, Max Dickman, who was a founder of Columbia Steel and Metal Co. Selma’s life was centered on her love and devotion to family, including her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, sister, brother, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, her lifelong friend Florida Boyd, and many, many friends who became her extended family. Selma was known for her sharp intellect, lively sense of humor, and passionate interest in people. She continued to form very special friendships throughout her life. To the end, Selma was a fashionista, who loved to entertain in her beautiful home. She was an avid reader and storyteller. Selma was active in her children’s schools, school and Girl Scouts. She held leadership positions in B’nai Brith Women and Hadassah. She was a member of the Tree of Life Temple and the Beth Shalom Synagogue. She is survived by her loving daughters, Janis Dickman, Jacquelyn Dickman Babcock (Keith), Dr. Sheryl Dickman Cook (Steve). Her grandchildren, Dr. Michael Babcock (Liz), Max Babcock (Amanda), Adam Cook and Sophie Cook were the joy and pride of her life. She is survived by her sister, Anita Gibson, whom she adored. Her dear brother, Dr. Michael Blick, preceded her in death. Selma formed warm relationships with her wonderful caregivers, Darlene, Georgia, Jacque, Denise, Sheila, and Retha. Her family is grateful for their compassion and competent care. A special thank you to Pat Blackmon for her friendship. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on , 13, 2015, at the Tree of Life Temple, 6719 North Trenholm Road. Burial will follow in Hebrew Benevolent Society , 720 Blanding Street. Dunbar , Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jewish Family Services, 308 Flora Drive, Columbia, SC 29223, or to a charity of your choice. |

Obituary: Phillip E. Dickman LEXINGTON - Phillip E. Dickman, 70, of Lexington, died , 28, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born May 8, 1945 in Sharon, PA, son of Clarence and Ethel Dickman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Dickman of Burghill, OH. Phillip was a retired Director with 48 years of dedicated service to Kepner s in Wheeling, WV. Phil was a caring and compassionate man who had an incredible ability to help his community. His passion was his family. He treasured the times spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, of 50 years, Patricia A. Dickman, three children, Christopher T. (Norah) Dickman of Tega Cay, SC. Lori A. (Jason) Torbett of Lexington, SC and Brian S. (Whitney) Dickman of Nashville, TN, six granddaughters, Olivia (Aaron) Angel, Alyssa Dickman, Sydney Torbett, Hannah Martin, Julia and Brynn Dickman; two grandsons, Jake Dickman and Brooks Torbett and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Angel. Also surviving is one sister, Dolly (Jim) Messersmith; one sister-in-law, Betty Dickman and one brother, Tom Dickman. Obituary: Aileen Dickinson WEST COLUMBIA \ A memorial service for Dr. Aileen Dickinson, 88, will be held at 10:30 a.m. , 11, 2014 at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. A visitation and reception for family and friends will be held following the service. Dr. Dickinson was born 18, 1925 in Detroit, MI and passed away on , 8, 2014. She was the daughter of Dr. James Watson and Ola Irene McCulloch. Dr. Dickinson had a long career as a Speech Pathologist. She earned her PhD at the University of South Carolina in Special Education Administration. She received her Masters of Science in Speech Pathology at the University of Michigan and her undergraduate degree in Speech at Northwestern University. She founded St. Nicholas Speech School in Greenwood, SC and was Director of Speech and Hearing at Fernald State School in Boston, MA. Dr. Dickinson served as Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina for 15 years. She was active in theatre and was the Director of the Greenwood Childrens Theatre and founder of the Gateway Players in Southbridge, MA. She was a lifelong member of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association where she was declared a Fellow. She was also a 50 year White Rose member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Surviving are her daughters, Robyn Zimmerman (Len), Pat Linton (Ron); son, Conrad Lau; grandchildren, Jean Zimmerman, Kerrie Barbee, Leigh Ann McMinn, Amber Bagnulo, Gibb Little, Ike Linton and Ida Linton; 8 great-grandchildren; step children, Rick Dickinson, J. D. Dickinson, Linda Allard and Lauren Eavers. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edwin Lau and Rich Dickinson; brothers, Dr. James Watson and Dr. Theodore Watson.
