Obituary: DRESSEL, Katherine ("Katie"), age 86, passed away peacefully at Trinity Community of Beavercreek on 2, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born 21, 1929 in Jackson, Michigan to Walker and Helen (Cobb) Kern. She earned her BA degree from Western Michigan University and pursued her career as an elementary school teacher with great enthusiasm. Katie married Royal ("Bud") Dressel in 1952, and was devoted to the care of her family. She later returned to teaching, and was the director of a community day care center. Throughout her life, Katie was an active volunteer. She had a keen interest in social justice and politics, and was actively involved in the Civil Rights movement, Head Start, and the League of Women Voters. Katie also volunteered as a patient liaison in medical facilities. Katie's love of children inspired her to create poems and finger plays, some of which were published in "Highlights for Children" magazine. Katie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud, and her sisters, Mary Dalrymple and Suzanne Stanley. She is survived by her brother, Quinn Kern, her sons, Frederick (Moira) Dressel and Quinton (Diane) Dressel, daughter Mary (George) Hagan, and eleven grandchildren whom she adored, Brian, Claire, Mary Kate, Rob, Jenny, Katherine, Sarah, Tom, Rachel, George, and Amanda. A Memorial service celebrating Katie's life will be held on , 7th at 2:30pm at Trinity Community Chapel in Beavercreek. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm.
