Obituary: a lifetime of service to his Lord, his family, his parishioners, and his country, Reverend Carl DAgostino has returned to the Lord on the 30th of May, 2017.

Born May 26, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio, Reverend DAgostino attended St. Anns Parish School in Cleveland Heights and St. Ignatius High School. He left St. Ignatius to enter the Seminary and was ordained May 23, 1959. Rev. DAgostino served the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland first as an Associate Pastor at St. Charles Parish in Parma for five years, and then at Holy Redeemer Parish in Collinwood, Ohio.

Rev. DAgostino was serving at Holy Redeemer Parish as the Vietnam War was escalating. It came to light that there was a critical shortage of priests to support the growing number of Americans in uniform. Rev. DAgostino answered the Bishops call for volunteer clergy by enlisting in the Army in 1968. Rev. DAgostino served in Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star among other citations. His twenty-three years as a Chaplain in the United States Army included two tours at the Army Command School, three at Fort Belvoir in Washington D.C., Korea, and Germany.

Lt. Colonel Carl DAgostino retired from the Army in 1991. He then assisted the needs of St. Judes Parish in Elyria, Ohio for two years before becoming Pastor of St. Michaels Parish in Independence, Ohio where he served as Pastor for twelve years before retiring in 2004. Rev. DAgostino etired to Holy Redeemer Parish where he celebrated mass and assisted his fellow priests throughout the Cleveland Diocese for an additional twelve years.

Reverend DAgostino is preceded in death by his parents Eugenia and Daniel and is survived by three siblings, Mary Jane Winslow, Daniel, and Anthony. He will be remembered always as Unc by his eight nieces and nephews, and twelve grand nieces and nephews.

His 84 years of life and service to God and Country will be celebrated by family and friends on 4th, 2017 with 3 pm Vespers at St. Michael Church, 6540 Brecksville Rd. Independence, OH. Visitation will follow Vespers through 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, , 5, 2017 at St. Michael Church. Private Interment All Souls .

Obituary: DAgostino, Helen, 95, of Fairborn, Ohio passed away on 18, 2015. She had been a resident of Friends Community in Yellow Springs since 2013. Helen was born on 8, 1920, in Plains, PA, the first child of John and Julia (Lewandoski) Serafin. Her father John worked as a coal miner. Helen is survived by two brothers, Robert Serafin and John Serafin Jr. both of Pennsylvania, a daughter Lisa D'Agostino (Steve) of Vallejo, CA, a daughter Teresa Scully (Kevin) of Nashua, NH and a son Robert D'Agostino of Fairborn. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Robert Jr., Dominic, Sarah and Sean. During her grade school years, Helen studied the piano. At the age of twelve, she performed a recital which included Minuet in G Major, Op. 14, No.1 by the Polish composer Ignace Jan Paderewski. This composition remained in her repertoire and she played it for her family many times over the decades. grade school, high school and secretarial school, Helen decided she would love to work in a larger city. At the age of 20, she moved to Wilkes Barre, PA to start her first job as a secretary at a psychiatric hospital. She also played the piano for the residents there whenever possible. In addition to classical music, Helen loved to play all the great old standards from the 30's, 40's and 50's. Helen joined the Women's Army Corps. She was stationed in many different bases in the U.S. She made many lasting friendships with several of the women she met during this time. an 8 year courtship, she married Dominic Vincent D'Agostino on 18, 1953. lived for 3 years in Japan and later at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Upon Dominic's retirement from the military, they lived in Huber Heights and later in Kettering. Helen was a homemaker until their children were older. She worked as a secretary at Hithergreen Middle School in ville for several years and later at the University of Dayton International Office. She was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Pete Rose and the family went to many home games. She loved to bake and was always trying out a new dessert recipe. Her family loved her snickerdoodle cookies, her Czech cookies and her "Jumbo" cookies. She shared her love of old black and white movies and loved Fred Astaire's dancing. Helen was always proud of her Polish ancestry. Her husband Dominic preceded her in death on 7, 1991. her husband passed away, Helen continued to play bridge and the piano. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and spent time traveling to see family or go on vacations with old friends. In her later years, she was confined to a wheelchair due to an illness. She was determined to remain as useful as she could be and spent a lot of time babysitting her two young grandsons. Eventually, she went to live with her son Robert in Fairborn for 10 years before retiring to the Community in Yellow Springs. Helen would want everyone to know that she loved her life and was very grateful for it. The family would like to thank all the good people at Friends Community.
