Obituary: Dr. Horace Mellard DuBose III, age 83, of Gastonia, passed away at Gaston Memorial Hospital on , 14, 2011. He was born in Winston-Salem and was the son of the late Horace Mellard DuBose II and Miriam Capp DuBose. Dr. DuBose was a graduate of Reynolds High School, Winston-Salem, graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Law Degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He practiced law for over 30 years in Gaston and additionally was licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Later in life, he attended Duke University and earned a Doctorate of Divinity. He served as Minister for several United Methodist Churches in the area including, McAdenville United Methodist Church, Salisbury United Methodist churches, Casar United Methodist Church, Martin Street United Methodist Church and as a retired pastor, he recently attended Christ United Methodist Church, Gastonia. Dr. DuBose was a member and former president of the AM Optimist Club, former Lt. Governor of North Carolina Optimist International, he was very active in Pop Warner Football where he served as National Commissioner. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign War in Gastonia, active in Alcoholic Anonymous organizations. Dr. DuBose was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II and a veteran of United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired after 26 years of service as a Full Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Dr. DuBose is survived by his wife, Evelyn Martin DuBose; two sons, Bill DuBose and wife Wanda of Lowell, Vaughn M. DuBose and wife Janet of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Erica Bryson of Lowell, Monty DuBose and wife Jamie of Gastonia, Deza Rae Arrington, William Sean DuBose of Garland, Texas; four great grandchildren, Jetta Bryson, Will Bryson, Adrian Wilkerson, Anson Arrington. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm , 18, 2011 at Carothers , Gastonia. services will be 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 3415 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina with Rev. Marti Hatch officiating. Interment with military honors by the United States Marine Corps will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Dr. DuBose was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife of 34 years, Margaret Everett DuBose; brother, Leonard DuBose; sister, Emily Biggam. Obituary: Marilyn Laura DeBona died peacefully at her home in Greensboro, North Carolina on 12, 2016. She was surrounded by her devoted husband Joe and her beloved daughters, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Marilyn was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of Thomas and Marion Ronaldi. She loved the city and her after school job as a hat check girl at Sardis Restaurant on 44th Street. She met her first husband, John DeBona on Orchard Beach in the Bronx in the summer of 1951. married three years later at the Beekman Palace in Manhattan. settled in Babylon, New York where they raised four daughters. John worked as a teacher at Babylon High School and though Marilyn worked for many years, her real vocation was her family. She was fiercely devoted to her girls and grandchildren. She loved family gatherings, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, gardening and reading. She was a fabulous cook and invitations to her renowned dinner parties were always eagerly accepted. She brought people together by the sheer force of her generous spirit. Just before John died in 1991, some uncanny, yet perfectly timed communication brought his childhood best friend, Joe Contrastano, back into his and Marilyns lives. Joes neighborhood humor brought laughter into Marilyns world during those difficult years and they married in 1996. In the weeks before her passing, she and Joe were still making reservations at her favorite local steakhouse. She is survived by her husband Joe, her children and their spouses, Debbie and Rick Wodhanil, Lorraine and Steve Marshall, Elyse and David Descalzi, and Jill and Mark Zenker, and by her grandchildren Stephanie, John Thomas and Ashley, Caty, Lizzie, John Adam, Leia, Francesca and Emilia, great granddaughter Lily, as well as by her brother Thomas Ronaldi Jr., brother in law Alan Nixen and many nieces and nephews. Her strong and loving presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends . Marilyns life will be celebrated at Hanes Lineberry , 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC, on , 14th, from 6 to 8 pm.
