Obituary: Samuel Martin Davidson, 87, of Charlotte, NC died on 22, 2016 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Ella Brimer Davidson and James Campbell Davidson. Born in Clover, S. C., he graduated from Clover High School and served in the U. S. Army from , 1947 until , 1950. Sam spent most of his working career with Southern Engineering where he retired as Chief Estimator after thirty-nine years. Sam was a long time member of Amity Presbyterian Church. He was very active there, having served as ruling elder, church treasurer, and as a member of various committees. He was honored in 2015 when his congregation selected him as the outstanding older adult. Sam was also known at Amity as the light man, as he replaced light bulbs in the various buildings of the church for many years. He and his wife, Peggy, delivered Friendship Trays for over twenty years. Papa as he was affectionately known, loved his family, and amused his children and grandchildren over the years with his many little antics, such as wiggling his ears, tightening heads, and letting the walking man and wind-up toy perform. He also excelled at making apkin sculptures, as a follow up to many family meals. At family Christmas gatherings, a tradition for Sam and his brothers, Jim and Bud, was to sing Christmas carols for the group. Always totally off key, it was entertainment for all. Sam loved the outdoors and all that it entailed. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and especially enjoyed rabbit hunting. He was an accomplished vegetable gardener, often having gardens in several locations around town. He and Peggy liked to travel and were able to make it to all fifty states and many foreign destinations. Sam was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge #676. He spent many years there coaching his future Masonic Brothers, six of whom will be serving as pallbearers. He also was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies and was recognized by both groups for fifty years of service. He is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Peggy H. Davidson, son Martin (Hilary), and daughter Sara Davidson (Joe Girting), four grandsons: Jake Palmertree (Ashley), Spencer Davidson, Grant Davidson, A. J. Girting and three great-granddaughters: Lucy, Stella and Amelie. Also surviving him are brothers Jim (Carolyn), Bud (Betty), and Johnny Guy. He was predeceased by a sister, Marcene Davidson Little. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm at McEwen , 5716 Monroe Rd. Service for Sam will be at Amity Presbyterian Church on , 27, beginning at the graveside at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will follow in the sanctuary, with a reception concluding in Johnston Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2805 N. Sharon Amity, Charlotte, N. C. 28205. |

Obituary: Robert Davidson Jr., devoted husband, loyal son, extraordinary daddy, and amazing Papa, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully at Transitions Life in Raleigh, NC on , 5, 2015. Robert was born on 31, 1949, in Brentwood, England to Robert Davidson Sr. and Rose Davidson. He and his parents immigrated to Canada and later to the United States. He proudly became an American citizen in Atlanta, Georgia on 30, 1965 - the same day as his father. Before moving to Cary, NC, he was a resident of High Point, NC, for nearly 25 years. For most of his life, Robert worked in the railroad industry, and, until his passing, was currently employed with Road and Rail Services, Inc., where he was the Director of Business Development. For close to 20 years, Robert was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he was a dedicated school teacher, and a member of several committees. At the time of his passing, he and Teresa were currently attending Oak Hill Friends Meeting in High Point. Robert married Teresa Loflin, his high school sweetheart, on 1, 1968. Theirs was a love that spanned 47 years, 5 states, and 18 homes. Robert found true happiness just being with his family. His faith in Christ was apparent to all those who knew and loved him. His untimely passing has been survived by both of his parents and step-mother, Edith Carroll Davidson. He is also survived by his wife, Teresa. In addition, Robert is survived by his two daughters, Ms. Nicole Kimble of Cary, NC, and Mrs. Natalie Mann and her husband, Wayne, of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law, Mr. Steve Loflin and his wife, Pat; sister-in-law, Mrs. Pam Crandall and her husband, Tony; sister-in-law, Mrs. Susie Monroe and her husband, Rusty; and special aunt, Ms. Martha Ann Loflin. He was a dearly loved Papa to his four grandchildren: Cooper and Laney Kimble and Greyson and Liam Mann. He is also survived by several loving nephews and a niece: Mr. Scott Thrift, Mr. Steven Loflin, Mr. Matthew Loflin, Mr. Clayton Monroe, and Mr. Tyler Monroe, and Mrs. Cayce Gordon. The family will receive visitors at Sechrest , 1301 E. Lexington Ave., High Point, NC, on , 11, between 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be officiated by Pastor John Sides at 11:00 a.m. on , 12th, at the Oak Hill Friends Meeting, 2001 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC. |
