Obituary: JOAN T. DOBEL Nov 9, 1923 - May 8, 2013 Joan was born in Wapakoneta, OH, to Waid H. and Helen A. Woehler. She was raised in Garnett, KS, where she enjoyed fishing with her father and playing clarinet in the Garnett High School ing Band. Joan spent four of the best years of her life at St. Mary (University) in Leavenworth, KS, where she made lifelong friends and earned her Degree in Chemistry in 1945. graduation, she joined Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City as a research chemist. Joan married Jerome P. Dobel, Jr., in 1947, and the couple had 6 children: J. Patrick (Lea Vaughn) of Seattle, WA, Tim of Martha's Vineyard, MA, Mike (Sue) of Omaha, NE, Mark of Prairie Village, KS, Theresa (John Dewey) of Akron, OH, and Maureen (Judy Hughes) of Denver, CO. She was an active volunteer with Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts; Ladies of Charity; Cure of Ars Mission Group; St. Joseph Hospital; and others. Later in life, Joan went back to her roots in science, becoming a chemistry lab instructor, first at Johnson Community , then at UMKC. She moved to Omaha in 2010 to be closer to more family. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years and her brother Waid H. Woehler, Jr., who lovingly referred to his little sister as "Socks". Joan and Jerry leave grandchildren, Andy (Trisha), Sarah (Mark Staroska), Susie (fiancé Brian Leuschen), Christine, Hilary, Matt, Casey, and Riley; and great grandson Michael. The family would like to express their abiding appreciation to Mike and Sue Dobel for their loving and constant care of Joan during her time in Omaha. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., 24, 2013 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, with a luncheon at the church immediately following the Mass. All are welcome. Inurnment in Mt. Olivet . Obituary: R Gene Dobbertien, 91, died , 12, 2016, Omaha, NE. She was born 27, 1924, in Fairbury, NE, and was the only child of Erwin and Ruth (Snyder) Schroeder. graduating Fairbury High School, she graduated Nurses Training at St Lukes in Denver, Colorado and graduated Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was a sister of Phi Mu sorority. Gene was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church She married her first husband, Dr. Robert B Muffly, on 19, 1949, who preceded her in death. She married Henry L Dobbertien 21, 1980, who sadly preceded her in death 17, 2014. Survived by children Kimberly Muffly and Kirk (Beverly) Muffly both of Omaha, NE; Karl(Barbara) Muffly of Tampa, FL; and Kathleen Muffly (David Gustafson) of Minneapolis, MN. Also survived by step children, Kathleen(Dennis) Vollink and Monica(Todd) Johnson, both of Cape Girardeau, MO; Christine Dobbertien(William Figeley), and Thomas(Rhonda) Dobbertien, both of Battle Creek, MI; Ann(James) Holmes of Fort Wayne, IN; and Gregory Dobbertien of Temperance, MI. Additional survivors include nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, antiquing, traveling, quilting and knitting. She loved animals especially her dog, Frankie. Gene and Henry spent winters in Green Valley, AZ and summers in Battle Creek. A memorial service will be held at St Thomas Episcopal Church, 16 E. Van Buren St., Battle Creek, Michigan 49017, , 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National next to her husband Henry. In lieu of flowers, Gene wished donations be made to Doctors Without Borders 333 7th Avenue,New York, NY 10001, and The Humane Society.
