Obituary: Anna Mae Downes, age 96, died peacefully on 26, 2015 at The Rivers in Grosse Pointe Woods. Anna was born on 3, 1919 in Detroit; the daughter of Arthur J. and Mary P. Trombly. She grew up in Grosse Pointe Park and graduated high school at St. Ambrose. Ann was employed as a secretary for several years in Detroits Fisher Building before she married James Downes in 1943 at St. Ambrose. The young couple lived in Detroit for a few years before moving to St. Clair Shores in 1952. She was known for her unassuming elegance and kindness. Ann enjoyed being with her family. She was very involved in her grandchildrens lives when they were young. She also enjoyed reading and playing cards. In her youth, she spent summers in Anchorville and maintained a fondness for the water her entire life. She loved to ice skate in her youth. Ann is survived by her three children; James J. Jr. (Nancy), Mary Reid (Thomas) and Sally Lombardo (Roy); her six grandchildren, Julia Kato (Eric), Brian Downes (Jen), Lucy Hannah (Brad), John Reid (Pankti), Matthew Lombardo and Caitlin Lombardo; three great-grandchildren, Eva and Elissa Kato and William Hannah and her sister, Rosemary Monaghan. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on at the A. H. Peters , 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 oclock evening. She will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack in St. Clair Shores from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral mass begins at 12 noon. She will be interred privately at Resurrection in Clinton Township. Obituary: Downer, Evelyn Grace 3/10/1928 - 7/1/2015 Ann Arbor, Michigan Evelyn (Scootie) G. Downer (Balhoff) passed away at her home, , 1, 2015. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Scootie was born 10, 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was married to William (Bill) Downer, her loving husband of 52 years, who preceded her in death. Scootie was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, for many years she served as a member of the Alter Society, contributed hand sewn doll clothing for church bazaars, volunteered numerous hours for school functions and was a leader for both the Boy and Girl Scouts. She was a talented cake decorator and seamstress. Her homemade cookies were coveted by many and could be smelled for blocks around. Scootie and Bill enjoyed many years of boating and camping at Glen Lake, Michigan. travelled throughout the country in their 5th wheel camper enjoying scenery, family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, loved her Tigers and Michigan Football. Family was the center of her universe, from her oldest daughter to her youngest great-grandchild. She was the core of our universe as well, keeping everyone informed and connected, always knowing who was doing what, when and where. Need to check the weather or know the Tiger's score? we just had to call Scootie. She is survived by her eight children, Pam Scheiblauer, Linda Downer, Vicky Hulcher (Larry), Mary Himich, Bob Downer, Deb Keedy (John), John Downer (Ronnie), and Howard Downer (Elizabeth); 17 grandchildren, Donavan McDonald, Sean McDonald, Mike Caryl, Joey Caryl, Matt Hulcher, Elise Olszanowski, Michelle Peiffer, David Himich, Tom Himich, Shannon Downer, Steven Wasik, Robert Keedy, Margaret Keedy, John William Downer, Melissa Downer, Madison Downer and William Downer; 18 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Katie McDonald, Kody and Macy McDonald, Alex, Austin, Analeigh, and Addisyn Caryl, Fred and Clarice Caryl, Madeline and Adam Hulcher, Lainy and Landon Olszanowski, Brielle and Arianna Himich, and Ethan and William Himich.
