Obituary: Scarborough - Kathryn G. DeTore Kay passed away peacefully on 17, 2012. She was born in Portland on 2, 1922 the daughter of the late John F. and Beatrice (Spares) McGovern. She was one of fourteen children, attended Portland area schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1940. She began working as a secretary for Cook Everett & Pennel. During her early marriage, she worked as a secretary for Hannaford Brothers . raising four children and being a wonderful homemaker, she worked as a part time cashier for W.T. Grant and Wellwood Department Stores. She met her late husband, Thomas J. DeTore, a former naval Chief Petty Officer; in of 1941 during port call of his ship in Portland. were married on 29, 1943 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and cake decorating. She made and decorated cakes for birthdays, showers, school functions and church bake sales. She also enjoyed candlepin bowling and bicycling with her husband. She was interested in news and politics and followed them both enthusiastically. She enjoyed regularly discussing her viewpoints on the issues. She had a very keen insight as well as common sense and practicality when talking about these kinds of topics. She was a past president of the Parents Clubs at Chapman and St. Jospehs Elementary Schools. She was a communicant of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Portland and an active member of the St. Patricks Parish Womens Council where she enjoyed working on the Christmas fairs and rummage sales. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas John DeTore who passed away on 22, 1996; sons, David D. DeTore and Dennis D. DeTore. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Parisi and her husband Rich, Debra D. Eaton and her husband Stan; brother, Gregory McGovern; sister, Jean LeConte; four grandchildren, Nicole DeTore, Benjamin Eaton, Michael and Thomas Parisi; great grandson, Brayden and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. The family wishes to thank the nurses and CNAs at Pine Point for their love, support, friendship and compassion over the last seven years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation , 20, 2012 from 4-7 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins 199 Woodford St. Prayers will be recited , 21, 2012 at 9:15 am at the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Patricks Catholic Church 1342 Congress Street. Obituary: Cumberland Foreside-Howard F. Detmer, Jr. age 92 of Cumberland Foreside died morning 22, 2010 at Brentwood Manor in Yarmouth. He grew up during the Depression, fought in World War II, enjoyed success in athletics and business and through it all he was sustained by a rock solid foundation of faith and family. He will be remembered for many things but most of all he was defined by his selflessness and love for his wife Josephine, daughters Linda and Anne, son Edward and step-daughter Zareen. He was defined as well by a lifelong devotion to his Roman Catholic religion. Mr. Detmer did not just practice his faith -- he lived it. He died on Dec. 22, 2010 in Yarmouth at the age of 92. Bud Detmer was born in 1918 the son of Howard F., Sr, and Florence Cook Detmer in the Chicago suburb of Hyde Park, where he was one of five brothers. At Loyola Academy in Chicago he was educated by Jesuits while earning distinction in athletics, including track and football. His plan to attend the University of Notre Dame to play football was derailed by a broken leg. Instead, he went to Williams , where he played football, and was followed there by two of his four brothers. He graduated from Williams in 1941 and, immediately after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army where he rose to the rank of Major and served with distinction in the European theater. Two of his brothers also served in the war including his younger brother Edward, who was killed in action in the Philippines. Returning from the war, he went to work in New York for W.R. Grace & Co. He married Harriet Gertrude Smith, whom he knew from Chicago, and who was working in the retail fashion industry in New York. their marriage, the adventurous young couple moved to Ecuador and then Argentina where Mr. Detmer worked for Pan American Grace Airways, then known as Panagra. In 1950, the Detmers returned to Chicago where Mr. Detmer began a series of positions in business with family-owned companies beginning with the W.G. Smith Co. In the late 1950s, the Detmers moved to Portland Maine where Mr. Detmer took a position with E.E. Taylor and, a number of years later, with C.H. Robinson, a paper company. In the late 1950s, Mrs. Detmer developed a grave illness and died at the age of 42 in 1960, leaving a widowed Mr. Detmer to raise his three children who were then ages 6, 8, and 10. ``He was the most wonderful father in so many ways,\ recalled his daughter Linda Knowles. In 1970, Mr. Detmer married Josephine Hildreth Mirza, a native of Falmouth Foreside who taught at Waynefleet School and who remains active in a variety of Maine philanthropic causes. ``He was a very good citizen in all aspects of his life,\ recalled Mrs. Detmer. She noted that he was devoted to a variety of community causes and activities and through the years he served on the boards of directors of St. Josephs Manor, Maine Cerebral Palsy, the Service Core of Retired Executives, the Waynefleet School, and Portland Little League. Throughout his life Mr. Detmer was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, particularly at Yoke Pond in Maine. As a member of Portland Country Club for 50 years, he excelled at golf and he also took up skiing at Sugarloaf later in life. He leaves his wife of 40 years and three children, Linda Knowles of Jamestown, Rhode Island, Anne Detmer of Boston, Edward Detmer of Kensington, California, and his stepdaughter, Zareen Taj Mirza of Cumberland Foreside , two brothers, Martin Detmer of Chicago and Gene Detmer of California. Also survived by six grandchildren. There will be no visiting hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on 28, 2010 at 11am at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, Falmouth with Fr. Joseph Ford as celebrant. Interment will be private. Obituary: Roger A. Desrosiers Roger A. Desrosiers, 51, of Bradley, ME passed away unexpectedly on May 18. Born in Woonsocket, RI, the youngest son of Raymond Desrosiers, Sr. and the late Lucienne Desrosiers. He was a graduate of Bellingham Mass. schools and University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory with a degree in Music Education, and was an accomplished accordionist. He was a member of several Franco-American genealogical societies. He leaves many special friends at The Acadia Hospital in Bangor,, where he had been employed for since moving to Maine seven years ago. He was a longtime member of the BPOE Lodge #850 of Woonsocket, RI. Roger had a great love for his family and friends, of which there were many. His passions were his dog, Gus, the Patriots and Red Sox, cooking, gardening and working on his house in Bradley He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Maria Baker Desrosiers ,sisters Constance Vigue of FLA., Gail Carrier and husband, Ralph of RI, brothers Raymond Jr. of California, Ronald and wife Kelly of Unity, ME, brothers-in law Christopher Baker, of Salem, NH and wife, Lisa, Christopher Gwinn of Rowley, MA, and wife, Bernadette. Stepdaughters Regina Hardy of NH, Tina Mirabile and her husband, Christopher,of MA. Seven beloved grandchildren, Kylee, Christian and Jacob of NH, and Kelsee, Anthony, Melissa and James of MA, Many nieces nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at St. Jean de Baptiste , Wrentham Road in Bellingham, MA. 29th at eleven in the morning.
