Obituary: James Allen Dyson, Sr., died , 25, 2014, at The Crossing of Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 82. He was a native of South Carolina and a former resident of Morgan City, Berwick, Gibson, and Gonzales, Louisiana. James was born in Bishopville, South Carolina, on 20, 1931. James and his wife Martha Nell Sanford began their married life in Charleston and moved with their three young children to Morgan City in 1961 where he began a career in the commercial diving industry in Louisiana. He was employed by Sanford Bros. Divers until 1967 when he and several partners began Continental Diving Service. That company was sold in 1993 when he retired to Gibson where he enjoyed fishing in his pond and growing a prolific garden. During his lifetime, James enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing, and he was an avid fan of youth and high school sports. He could often be found at baseball, football, and basketball games in the Morgan City area and across the state. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Masons. He and Martha traveled across the United States and especially enjoyed a family land trip and cruise to Alaska in 2008 and their many family vacations to Navarre Beach. took their grandchildren to Disney World and to visit their families in Charleston many times over the years. Jamess life was a true testament to the strength and resiliency of the human spirit. James is survived by his children and their spouses: Mary Lou and Lucien Cutrera of Baton Rouge, Frances and Jim Opitz of New Orleans, James Allen Jr. and Melissa Driskill Dyson of Gonzales, and Lynne and Brian LeBlanc of Matthews, North Carolina. His grandchildren are Vince, Dylan, and Jeffry Cutrera; Shawn Campo, Ashley Campo Souza, and Chloe Broussard; and Brianne and Nicole LeBlanc. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, by his sisters-in-law Susie Sanford of Morgan City and Lucille Sanford of Stephensville, and by numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha Nell Sanford Dyson, his parents Jacob Allie Dyson and Minnie Louise Driggers Dyson and by six brothers, Coley, Elbert, Lawrence, Archie, Wade, and John Dyson and by his sister Sadie Riley Loveless. In keeping with his long expressed desire, James will be cremated. A memorial service will be held in Morgan City on , 9 at Hargrave . Visiting will begin at noon with the service to begin at 1:00. Obituary: Harriette Diane LaCour Dyson passed away May 2, 2016 at a local hospital. She was born to Inez and Arthur LaCour in Alexandria, La. where she grew up. She began to play the piano in her home church, Calvary Baptist, when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Bolton High School, attended Louisiana and graduated from Northwestern State University with a Masters Degree in Music Education. She moved to Cameron, La. upon graduation to become the itinerant music teacher for Creole High School and Grand Chenier. Here she met the love of her life, Larry Dyson. recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. they married they survived the tragedy of Hurricane Audrey to rebuild their lives in Cameron until their retirement from their family owned business where she served as General Manager at the Dyson Lumber . She was the pianist and choir director for First Baptist Church in Cameron for many years serving alongside of Larry. She taught piano to countless students through the years. On retirement she and Larry moved to Lake Charles to be a full time grandmother. This was her joy for the last 17 years. She was an active member at First Baptist Church Lake Charles where she continued to use her musical talents playing the piano in the Senior Adult Department. She was nominated Citizen of the Year in Cameron Parish. She was also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity and a member of the Rainbow Girls. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Larry Dyson, daughters Christi Watson and husband John of Sulphur, La., and Laurie Mayeux and husband Jimmy of Lake Charles, La., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be held May 5, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm at Hixson of Lake Charles and will resume morning at 9am till time of service at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. service will be held at 10am May 6, 2016 at the church. Obituary: Gerald Roland (Gerry) Dyson, 88, died , 3, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical after a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks on , 4, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and , 5th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on , 5, 2013 with burial at the Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. Mr. Dyson was born 9, 1925 in Chopin, Louisiana, the third of six children. He served in World War II as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. the War, he enrolled in Louisiana Tech and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He also earned a masters degree in civil engineering from Louisiana State University. His engineering career involved 30 years of service in flood control matters for the Louisiana Department of Public Works, working with the Corps of Engineers and local levee boards. his retirement from the State, Mr. Dyson served for 20 years as Executive Assistant to the President of the Pontchartrain Levee District. He was one of the founding members of the American Society of Civil Engineers Baton Rouge Branch in 1962 and served as the Branch's fourth president in 1964-1965. He served as the ASCE Louisiana Section President in 1969. In 2012, he was presented with the Louisiana Section's highest award as a member of the ASCE Wall of Fame. Mr. Dyson was a longstanding member and deacon at Goodwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bettie Dyson, daughter Sandra Huddleston and husband, Keith of Purcell, Oklahoma, son Randy Dyson and wife, Kathy of Denham Springs, son Bruce Dyson and wife, Pam of Prairieville, eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends |
