Obituary: Ethel Marie Dufresne, 89, died on 28, 2009. She was born on 26, 1920 to Ulysse O. and Ida Waguespack Dufresne. She was a 1937 graduate of Edgard High School and was class president of her senior class. Ms. Dufresne was a 1942 graduate of Hotel Dieu School of , and enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1943. She was a 1st lieutenant with the 40th General Hospital, stationed prior to D-Day in England and after the invasion she was stationed in Le Vesinet, France. the war, Ms. Dufresne continued her nursing career at Sewickley Valley Hospital in Sewickley, PA, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge and Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, ultimately retiring from St. Charles Hospital in Luling, LA in 1983. Ms. Dufresne cared lovingly for her patients and mentored many individuals entering the medical field. She was known for her warm, cheerful and smiling demeanor, her helpful and generous nature, and her devotion to her family. When her children were young, she was an active member of the PTA and a Cub Scout den mother for Cub Pack 323 in Luling. In her retirement she became active in her local VFW post, serving in several officer positions, and volunteering with the American Red Cross. Ms. Dufresne was preceded in death by her mother and father; five sisters, Cecile D. Faucheux, Anne D. Dennis, Philomene (Toot) D. Falgoust, Agnes D. Barre, and Georgette D. Spoonts; two brothers, Claude Dufresne and Amilcar (Noon) Dufresne; and her former husband, Russell D. Giammanco. She is survived by her brother, Ulysse ( ) J. Dufresne of Ponchatoula; son James R. Giammanco and wife Gloria; daughters Kay M. Giammanco and husband Sam, Lia G. Thompson and husband Tim; grandchildren Ian M. Giammanco, Gina L. Giammanco, Jenny B. Lendle and husband Robert, Lindsay A. Burch, and Jeremy J. Thompson; step great-grandson Peyton Hicks and, expected great-granddaughter Olivia K. Lendle; many, many beloved nieces and nephews, to whom she was a favorite aunt, and many, many dear friends. A funeral mass will be held at Garden of Memories , 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA, on 31, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. She taught us to always think of others before ourselves. - She was a great cook, taught by her mother and her mother-in-law. - She was a loving mother. - She couldn cut bangs straight. - She could break into song at the drop of a hat . . . prompted by a word or phrase. - She loved to watch the rain fall. - She always wanted to visit Big Sur. - She loved her husband dearly. - She was born to be a nurse. She had the perfect combination of a caring, solicitous nature and superior intelligence. - She could speak French fluently. In Paris they said she spoke it with a south american accent. - She made the best pralines around . . . and popcorn balls . . . and tee gateaux . . . and chicken and oyster gumbo . . . and red jambalaya . . . and oyster dressing . . . and spaghetti with meatballs.and okra gumbo with shrimp.and eggplant with shrimp. - She never put okra in the chicken gumbo. - Shed team up with her sister Agnes to make crawfish bisque. - She cooked "Army Chow" (creamed beef on toast) and most of us really liked it. Some still cook it today. - She had a basting syringe to baste the turkey long before it was a common kitchen item. Hers was an abdominal lavage syringe from the OR. - She loved to write. - She always searched for the most expressive words to convey a thought. - She had a strong work ethic. - She was not wasteful. - She was not selfish. She never asked or demanded anything for herself. - She sang us to sleep to old tunes like "Ragtime Cowboy Joe", Old Man River, Tennessee Waltz and Lassie C-ome . - She woke us up to phrases like Up and At Em and Rise and Shine and a quirky little whistle that made us groan and cover our heads with the sheets. - She taught her daughters to always use lotion on our knees, elbows and heels. - She taught us to always send thank you notes for gifts. - She learned to drive at age 50. - She taught us to be self-sufficient. - She was a great seamstress. Halloween costumes for grand kids were a favorite project. - She loved Charles Bronson, John Wayne and Anthony Quinn movies. - She had a bicycle accident when she was stationed in England during WWII. She lost control going downhill because she wasn used to a bicycle with hand brakes. - She befriended a young French boy named Henri Dufresne while stationed in Paris. - She hated the sound of the squealing pig at a cochon du lait. - She was afraid of her fathers big horse, Grey. - She dreaded the mornings when her mother announced it was cleaning day. That meant moving huge armoires to clean behind them. She handed that thoroughness down to us. - She was a straight A student and class president of her high school graduating class, but got called into the principals office when the class of 13 decided to play hooky right before graduation. - She was mortified to have to wear a boys coat in grade school and so she hid the coat in the coat closet and didn claim it. - She was able to go to nursing school due to the generosity of her sister Anne. - She tried to break off her engagement with our father, but he talked her out of continued... |

Obituary: Ruby Fabacher Dufrene, 88, of Lake Charles, passed away on 14, 2015 into Gods loving arms in the home of her eldest daughter, Connie as she and Ruby's twin daughters, Rita and Ruthie and loved ones sat at her side. Ruby was born on 16, 1926, in Sulphur, LA, to the late Andrew and Eva Fabacher. In 1944 she graduated from St. Charles Academy. She was a member of the V.F.W. post 2130 Ladies Auxiliary and The American Legion Auxiliary. Being a devout Catholic, she was also a member of our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church. On 29, 1946, she married her childhood sweetheart, Eddie; together they shared 66 beautiful years and were blessed with five children. "Our mother was a professional homemaker who served and loved the Lord with reverence and deep devotion. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She devoted her life, heart and soul to her loving family which was everything to her. 'Our circle of love' will never be the same without our precious and loving Matriarch, whose love was unwavering." Left to cherish her memories are three daughters, Connie Leger of Lake Charles, Ruth Singer and husband Tommy of Moss Bluff, and Rita Hughes and husband Jim of Newton, TX, 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Dufrene, Sr. and her two sons, Eddie Dufrene, Jr. and Gary Andrew Dufrene. Pallbearers will be her 12 Grandsons; Eric, Jason, Corey, Gabe, Derrick, Nicholas, Lee, Andy, Jim Ed, Daniel, Tristan, and Ryan. To all the caregivers at Harbor Hospice Facility, thank you for all the love and compassionate care given to our mother. You will be forever in our hearts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Lake Charles on 16, 2015 at 1:30 PM. Reverend Alan Trouille will preside and Monsignor Charles Dubois and Reverend John Huckaby will concelebrate. A Rosary was led by Deacon Glenn Viau evening and visitation will resume at 9 AM today at Hixsons of Lake Charles until service time. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park .
