Obituary: Sophie Hernandez Ducote, a native of White Castle, a member of St. John The Evangelist of Prairieville, and life-long resident of Ascension Parish, passed away on , 5, 2016 at the age of 90. Sophie was a past member of the VFW Post 3693, Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary, and served with the St. Johns Ladies Altar Society. As a seamstress, she really enjoyed quilting with her sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Babin (Melvin), Audrey Boudreaux (Joey), Judy Ducote-Long (Michael), Debbie Ducote ; sister, Mabel Poche; sisters-in-law, Rita Hernandez and Charlotte Hernandez; grandchildren, Angela Babin Troxclair, Todd Balfantz, Wade Babin, Chet Boudreaux, Adam Butler Ducote, Eric Boudreaux, Jareson Dowdy, and Blake Dowdy; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, F.A. Ducote; parents, Jeff and Faustine Hernandez; sisters, Bella Kelley, Esma Higgins, Bessie Lambert; brothers, Nelcon, Whitney, and Roy(Sr.) Hernandez. Sophie found no greater joy than in the rearing of children, grandchildren, and eventually, great-grandchildren. She smothered each and every baby she ever held in her arms with all the love that he or she could stand - making each of them a stronger, more loving person. If you knew Sophie, her family would like to thank you for loving her and being a part of her life. Visitation will be held on , 8, 2016 at Ourso of Gonzales from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume on , 9, 2016 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Obituary: Melvin Joseph Ducote on 27, 2012. Beloved husband of Mary Roy Ducote. Father of Christine Brenan (Tom), Donna Sider (Johnny Gray), Clyde Ducote, Judy Stevens (Terry), Veeda Payne (Bob), Antoinette Cadow (Kenneth) and the late Kelvin Ducote (Minette). Also survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Age 82. A native of Hessmer, La. and a resident of Metairie since 1956. Mr. Ducote was owner of Ducotes Construction and was retired from Jefferson Parish School Board and was a member of the Airline Lions Club. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St. on , 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation at church after 9:30 am.
