Obituary: BOSSIER CITY, LA - Services celebrating the life of Billie Rae Dement will be held at 2:00 p.m. on , May 5, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Billie was born in Leeds, AL on May 14, 1930 to George and Georgeanne Walker. She became a military wife to a loving husband, Rufus and worked at the Barksdale Base Exchange for many years. Billie was a wonderful cook with homemade southern specialties like cornbread and hushpuppies. She was a great mother, who was always put together before she left the house. She really enjoyed the time she spent at Wesleyan Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rufus A. Dement; son, Eric Dement and three sisters. Billie is survived by daughter, Paula Wagner and husband Dave; grandchildren, Theresa Wagner and fiancé Paul Stone and Jill Wagner Weathersby and husband Charles; great grandchildren, Emily Weathersby and Claire Weathersby; sister, Judy Hardin and husband Chuck; brothers, Jimmy Walker and wife Sheila, Bug Walker and wife Ann, Tommy Walker and wife Anita and Drennen Walker and wife Patsy as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd A and Ethel Schexnayder DeMars; grandparents, Albert J and Inez Madere Schexnayder and McKinley Calvin DeMars and Luda Francis Hill; two aunts, Brenda Marie Schexnayder and Geraldine DeMars; four uncles, J A Schexnayder, Neal J Ayme, Sr, Robert Bobby DeMars, Sr and Douglas Haley. She loved to crochet and to go dancing. She was a wonderful, loving, gentle and caring person with a heart of gold. She was a very friendly outgoing person. Obituary: Floyd A. DeMars, Sr., 83, born on May 1, 1927 in Pumpkin , LA passed away in Central, LA on 3, 2010. He was a member of Asbestos workers local #53, a member of American Legion, and a US Navy Veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves on his 17th birthday. Obituary: Petros Demarinis, longtime member of the Greek Orthodox community of New Orleans passed away on Jan. 5, 2015 at age 72. He was preceded in death by his mother Kalliope Zouloufou Karagiannis and sister Xaroula. He is survived by his wife Eleftheria Zoe Mantikos Demarinis, daughters Kalliope (Kelly) Mullins and and Paraskevi (Vivian) Haik, sisters Niki and Despina, brothers Sakelaris, Nikos, George Karagiannis, two grandchildren Michael and Eli Mullins, son in law Mark Mullins and Jeffrey O'Hara. He was born in Rhodes Greece and moved to New Orleans in 1970 where he became a prominent member and tireless volunteer in the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church. Over the past 45 years he has been known for his work as a church Chanter, leading the Church in responses and hymns every at Holy Trinity. He served as chairman of the Greek Festival for 15 years and was instrumental in helping the festival grow into one of the most beloved festivals in New Orleans. He spent years working at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and East Jefferson General Hospital. At home while raising his family he taught formal Greek School classes for 30 years to anyone interested in learning about Greek culture, history and how to read and write Greek. He was deeply passionate about Greek culture and the Orthodox church. He was a motivated educator and balanced it all perfectly with the art of enjoying life itself. In 2013 Petros was awarded The Archangel Gabriel Award by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios in Atlanta GA recognizing his service in the Greek community as a living example of the Orthodox Christian life and journey to Theosis.
