Obituary: E. Allen Daugherty, Jr., 21, returned home to his heavenly father on 1, 2012 at Owensboro Medical System. Allen was born in Owensboro on 8, 1990 and resided here all his life. Allen fought off Leukemia in 1994, had 8 brain surgeries in 1995, started experiencing seizure activity in 1995, dealt with Leukemia again in 1998, kidney failure in 2006, heart problems and yet never had a bad day. He used to tell his Dad as a child that he fought pain by, putting in the back of my head and playing. He graduated from Daviess High School in 2010, where he excelled in the Naval Junior ROTC. From his first day he bonded with Chief Gish, the instructor of the NJROTC Program, and would do almost anything for him. He not only remembered all of his General Orders, but also the Sailors Creed. Chief would often use Allen as an example of what was possible if you wanted it bad enough by saying, Hes had 8 brain surgeries and can remember these, what do you mean you can ? From day one he was under the protection and guidance of his fellow NJROTC Classmates. made sure he could find his way to class and protected him from all evil. He felt a special bond with all of them. His learning served him well when, on a trip to Virginia Beach he was presented with a battle flag from the last battleship to serve in the Kuwait Conflict. He received it for knowing the Sailors Creed when the Officer of the Day, on a destroyer Allen was touring, could not remember it. He was extremely proud of being in NJROTC and considered it the service to his country that his many disabilities prevented him from pursuing. An excellent flirt, one of his best days ever was when, as a freshmen, he had the priviledge of escorting five senior ladies to the prom. He had a picture of the six of them in his wallet to show off anytime the situation arose. He never met a woman that he wouldn flirt with, yet he was embarrassed as all get out by any affection from them. His favorite waitress at almost every place in town will attest to how much fun they had with him! Allen loved to travel and even though his destinations were limited to locations that had a Davita Dialysis , the possibilities were always exciting. He loved Gatorland in Orlando, the Navy Yard at Virginia Beach, the history of Charleston, South Carolina and the Great Lakes of Michigan to name a few. He had friends and family that he loved to visit and Davita always managed to arrange the schedule so that he could. Throughout his entire life Allen inspired those who knew him to do their best. One of his favorite songs?... Get Over It by The Eagles which he lived with all of his heart. When those around him wavered in their faith, his kept him strong. Just by living his life day to day, including dialysis three times a week beginning in high school, he was a beacon of light in a sometimes overwhelming sea of darkness. He will be terribly missed and remembered often by all those who knew him. God Speed,Fair winds and a following sea, Mr. Allen. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lindle and Martha Daugherty. He is survived by his mother, Alicia M. Daugherty; his father, Everett A. Daugherty, Sr. and his wife Terry; his godparents, James and Teresa Beckner; grandparents, Roy and Alice Gray; a great aunt, Janie Blunk and her family; a sister, Aletheia Snider; an aunt, Becki Estes and her son, Chris; an uncle, Bud Daugherty, all of Owensboro and an adopted group of extended family in Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on , 6 at Glenn and Crematory. Pastor David Hocker will officiate. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm and on after 10:00 am at the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
