Obituary: DUNCAN, Lorenzo Oliver, 70, a resident of Ramer, died , 29, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. There will be a Life Celebration Gathering on , 1, from 5-7 PM, at Leak Memory Chapel. Graveside service will be held on , 2, at 10 AM, at Bethlehem , Hickory Grove Road and Butler Mill Road, Sellers/Lapine area. Chuck Francisco and George Sedberry will be speaking at the graveside. Lorenzo served in the U.S. Air Force after high school and worked a short time at Kershaw Manufacturing. He then moved on to AMCO, Inc. in Montgomery, AL where he worked for 45 years. retiring from AMCO in the spring of 2014, he lived a lifetime dream of traveling to the West Coast to experience the giant sequoia and redwood trees, an experience he talked about often. Also, another wish came true to travel to Canada and travel by train. The trip began in Calgary and ended in Vancouver. His love for the land and nature was evident as he traveled with his long-time friend, Gypsy. He often said Gypsy was the most well-traveled dog in the world. It is a comfort to know that Lorenzo was blessed to experience the beautiful sites of our great country. Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Mary Duncan, and a brother, Otis. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Elaine, three sons, Andrew (Kelly), Zachary (Deidra), and Seth (Terry), granddaughters Lena, Caroline, Iris, and Vera and grandsons Sam & Gage. Lorenzo is also survived by one sister, Frances (Butch) Wilson, one brother, Julius (Faye) Duncan and thirteen nieces and nephews. Family and friends were very important to him. His classmates of Montgomery High School in Ramer were always in his special thoughts. Among the many special lifetime friends are Richard Wilhoite and Rueben Squire. Having an extended career in the mechanical contracting business resulted in countless special friendships that lasted throughout the years. If you made friends with Lorenzo you remained friends forever. Lorenzos generous, kind and unselfish love of other people, animals and nature describes this man who was more than willing to give and share rather than receive. The family is honoring this great man by asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206, North Hollywood, California 91607-3466 or at myeloma.org. Also, if you wish to donate to other charities or folks in need, please do so. Nothing would make Lorenzo happier than to know his death has resulted in helping others. We are all blessed to have known and loved him. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Condolences may be offered at www.leak-mc.com. |
