Obituary: Mary Louise Davis of Payette, Idaho, passed away peacefully on , 9, 2015 in the company of loved ones and with the faith she carried in her daily life. She is now among the angels, leaving those of us behind thinking her 91 years were not enough. Mary was born 18, 1924, the second child of Bill and Gertrude Meechan. Mother Gertrude Ackerman Meechan predeceased Bill, who later married Corrine Connolly, combining two families with 10 siblings. These ten brothers and sisters formed the nucleus of an amazing extended family that Mary enjoyed for so many years. Mary graduated from Payette High School in 1942 as Class Valedictorian. Mary married James Milan Davis, Jr. of Fruitland in 1944. Together they had three children: Dianne E. Kane, baby Joanne Davis who died soon after birth, and Denny M. Davis. Mary was retired from a long-time career in the title insurance industry, rising from typist to manager of the Payette office of Land Title Insurance . Mary was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and was named Catholic Woman of the Year in 2013 by the Idaho Council of Catholic Women. Mary played organ for almost seven decades at her church, and continued to do so until her death. Mary loved to play bridge, enjoyed her aerobics class, volunteered at the Holy Rosary Hospital gift shop, and served for many years as a volunteer for Community Concerts. She traveled regularly to be with her extended family. Mary is survived by daughter Dianne (Jack) Kane of Camas, Washington and Denny M. (Kathy Canfield) Davis of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; grandchildren Karen (John) Capestany and Kevin M. Kane; four great grandchildren Kyle and Kenny Kane, and Leo and Eliza Capestany; her sisters Jill (Bob) Hanigan and Colleen (Milke) Yuhl; brother Jack Connolly; and probably over 100 nieces, nephews, and their children. A Mass will be held at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church on , 12 at 11:00 AM. Viewing and Rosary will be night at the Church. Viewing from 5:00 to 6:30; Rosary at 6:30. Interment will be at Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Payette, Idaho. Condolences may be made to Marys family at shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Memorial gifts may be made to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, Idaho 83661. Mary will be happy to know your contributions will help to build their Parish Hall. Mary died knowing she was a well-loved woman. |

Obituary: Born in Port Jervis. New York on 4, 1929 Passed in Boise, Idaho on 6, 2015 Margaret lived in Sherman Oaks, California for 50 intervening years, where she owned a home with her husband Bob and raised 3 children: Holly (Spouse-Jerry), Mindy (Spouse-Robert) and Robbie (Spouse-Nicole) and 2 grandsons, Ryan and Kyle who all lived nearby in their San Fernando Valley homes. She attended high school in Port Jervis, N.Y and New Paltz Teachers . She married Bob in 1956 and moved to California soon afterwards. were married almost 46 years when he preceded her in death in 2002. Margaret (or Maggie to her college friends) was a private elementary school teacher for 40 years in New York and California. She touched the lives of over 600 developing, young minds as she passionately taught first and second grade at Valley Carden and the Curtis Schools. She loved to play piano (her form of therapy) and sing, especially Christmas carols, holiday and patriotic songs. She was a life-long bibliophile (reading over 60 books a year on average) and never wanted to read anything electronically. She kept her mind sharp doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading the daily newspaper as well as writing daily in her journal. moving in 2006 to Boise, Idaho to live closer to her son, Robbie (her fulltime caretaker for her last 4 months) she enjoyed spending family time with her cherished twin grandsons, her daughter-in-law Nicole and Nicoles parents, Stephanie and Johnny and remembering what it was like to live in a state with real seasons. She leaves behind her constant companion, 9-year old CASSIE cat who adored her back (she now needs a special forever rehoming if anyone has room to adopt her), an older brother, Alfred Chant and sister-in-law Patty Chant in Connecticut, numerous nieces and nephews - Bonnie Lou McLennan , Billy Davis , Caroline, Susie, David and Joshua Chant, The Winter Cousins - Dick, Jan, Julie, Danny, Sherry, Ken, Bobby, Brooke, Jack, Kip, Kelly and other relatives in N.Y and Nevada (Hi to Susi and Bill). Her Port Jervis, NY friends, Claire Madigan and Marion Heale kept in touch regularly and prove even without the internet and Facebook, friendships can survive. Margaret often shopped by mail (never drove or had a drivers license) and sent packages, notes, cards or letters to family and friends as she continued to support the U.S. Mail as the daughter of a postal carrier. She was grateful to be able to attend her 50 year High School reunion in N.Y. and to take one last road trip with a truck full of family antiques and memorabilia from N.Y to Ca. with husband Bob. Visiting the Amish country, Gettysburg, and Hershey, Pennsylvania were some of her shared highlights as her roots were deeply New England Yankee. Surprisingly her favorite book/movie was Gone with the Wind. Margaret was a proud American. She led by example, whether voting in most elections, actively protesting the loss of ancient oaks on her neighbors redevelopment (camcorder on shoulder) speaking her mind on behalf of private school teachers who needed pension plans or explaining to the wealthy, reality-sheltered children in her classrooms that we need to have compassion and walk in anothers shoes before we make judgments. She taught us all that whether a person was homeless, a CEO, a janitor or a principal; all deserved respect and nobody was better or less-than we were. Not surprisingly, Margaret was a D.A.R - Daughter of the American Revolution, only two generations removed from British citizenship. (Yes, our family has the Pedigree chart to prove it!) Many would say she had British sensibilities when it came to humor (flared nostrils), demeanor and manners. Often known to be a no-nonsense serious lady, she revealed a kinder, gentler side around her family, pets, and close friends. (Only Bob could get away with calling her limey, when he wasn calling her Spouses) She was quietly a lifelong Christian believer (Methodist) and while not a regular church attender (Easter and Christmas usually) she truly felt closest to God at her church of the Kitchen table where she had daily devotional time reading her King James BIBLE and Daily Bread, Guideposts or Upper Room, finding Gods promises of hope and peace while enjoying a worldly cup of coffee! Her extensive collections of dolls, seasonal decorations, and pug-dogs revealed her eye for beauty and love of all things cute or whimsical. In California, she loved to decorate every room for the traditional Davis family Christmas Eve Open House buffet where dozens of homemade cookies were made for that occasion each year. Margarets legacy will live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren as well as through her generous giving to numerous charities that she has supported over the years - especially Veterans, less, Youth or Animal organizations. Anyone caring to make a donation in her honor (in lieu of flowers) would be encouraged to contact: (1) Boise Rescue Mission, (2) Idaho Youth Ranch, or (3) The Humane Society of the United States. Any worthy charity of your choosing would be great way to memorialize her. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Margarets final wished were honored as she spent her last few months in her comfortable home under the compassionate care of Treasure Valley Hospice staff (thank you to nurse Connie and chaplain Joann) for her end stage C.O.P.D. and of course son, Robbie and Cassie-cat. She was cremated in Idaho at Cloverdale (thank you Ana B.) and returned with daughter, Holly to be interred at her final resting spot with husband Bob on Willow Heights. A private, family memorial will be held grave side at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen Street, Chatsworth, CA. 91311 on Good , 3, 2015 @ 10:30 a.m. The Davis family continues to ask for your prayers of support and welcomes anyone who would like to add a remembrance, story or anecdote to feel free continued... |
