Obituary: CHRISTOPHER, LLOYD LEE, age 79, went to be with his Heavenly Father on 17, 2010 after a lengthy struggle with cancer. He was a native of Gadsden, Alabama, growing up on a farm in the Southside community, but since 1971, he lived in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the fifth of eight children born to Charles Rich Christopher, Sr. and Leila Sewell Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles R. Christopher, Jr. and Al H. Christopher; and two infant children, Michael Bruce Christopher and Cindy Rose Christopher. Lloyd was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Iris Baugh Christopher; son, Lloyd Scott Christopher (wife, Alesia) of Atlanta, Georgia, and grandchildren, Andrew Blake Christopher and Katherine Victoria Christopher; son, Dr. Timothy Lee Christopher (wife, Jada) of Birmingham and grandchildren, William Johnson Christopher, Luke Douglas Christopher, and Bella Daye Christopher; sisters, Louise C. McMeekin and Frances C. Kirkland; and brothers, Harold G. Christopher, Howard R. Christopher, and Jerry D. Christopher, all of Southside near Gadsden. Lloyd graduated from Southside High School in 1950 and shortly afterwards joined the U.S. Air Force, serving four years during the Korean War with an overseas deployment in French Morocco. his military service, he returned home to complete his education. He was an honors graduate in Business Administration at Jacksonville State University in 1958. Upon graduation, he began a 31-year career of public service with the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor. He held assignments in Mobile, Alabama, Gadsden, and Huntsville, Alabama, prior to his move to Birmingham. He was recognized numerous times for his dedication and received the Award for Distinguished er Service in 1984. He retired in 1989 as the District Director for Alabama. Lloyd was always a faithful and dedicated servant of the Church. He was a long-time member of Brookwood Baptist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama, where he served as a childrens teacher, deacon, and in retirement, served for several years in a full-time capacity as Business Administrator. He led by example, living out his faith with kindness and compassion. Love of fellowship, a drive to make a difference, and a willingness to use his construction skills came together on mission trips to build several churches across the country. He was a quiet man with a humble spirit who carried with him the lessons of his farm upbringing all his life. He believed in the value of self-reliance and hard work in all endeavors. He was a model of honesty and integrity who consistently put others above himself. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on , 19, 2010 at Brookwood Baptist Church in Mountain Brook. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on , 19, 2010 at Crestwood , Gadsden. Obituary: Jennie Ruth Clem Christopher passed away, at her home, morning, 08, 2014. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Christopher was born 16, 1920, in Athens, Al. to the late Alexander Lafayette Clem and Julia Keyes Clem. She retired in 1971 from NASA, after having served as technical editor for 22 years to members of the famed science team that pioneered the Space program, headed by Dr Werner Von Braun, Dr Ernst Stuhlinger and Professor Hermann Oberth. She was an accomplished pianist and organist. She loved to travel and was an avid reader, especially of the Bible. She was a devoted and deeply spiritual Christian matriarch to her family. Ruth (as she was known to family and friends) communicated beautifully and always with great wit and a very special charm. That charm and wit and warmth remains behind in the hearts of those who have known and loved her. The comfort of knowing that her soul is taking that final, blessed journey that she longed for, must now serve as consolation for the loss of her sweet smile and loving manner. She leaves behind her loving husband, of 69 years, James H. Christopher of Athens, a son William N. Christopher (and wife Belinda) , of Rogersville, a daughter , Julia Lynn, of Birmingham, AL., five grandchildren, seven great \grandchildren. \.and a Legacy of Serene Gentleness.
