Obituary: Cherie was predeceased by her mother, Billie Ellison Chaney and is survived by her brother, Raleigh Chaney, Jr., his wife Dory Chaney; nephew, Michael Chaney and niece Christine Chaney, all residents of Palm Bay, FL. Raleigh, Dory, Christine and Michael were a blessing to her. Cherie graduated from Berry High School. She served in the US Air Force stationed in Germany. She graduated from Samford University Program where she received her RN degree. Upon her return from military duty she worked as an RN at Brookwood Hospital for more than 20 years. It was her third employment in life that brought her close to many. She became a nanny for a three day old baby in 1995, Kathleen Welden. She went on to raise Kathleen and her brother, Nick Welden. Everyone in Vestavia knew Cherie as their “Nanny”. The bond that she formed with these children will never be broken. She was a second mother to them and they loved her well. Cherie loved Kathleen and Nick like they were her own children. Cherie was not just a “Nanny”, she was part of another family that loved her. The only other babies she ever had were her dogs: Buttons, BJ, Bo and her cats Dusty and Spencer. Cherie had a wonderful friend in Bonita Crowe, her lifelong friend and neighbor. were more like sisters than neighbors or friends. shared every aspect of their lives together and looked out for each other always. Later in life she found a new friend in Allison Haynes. Allison was a good friend and neighbor. She also shared her faith with Cherie and they enjoyed reading the Bible together. Cherie was a lover of all animals. If you would like to make a donation in her name to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, 300 Snow Dr., Birmingham AL 35209 or any other animal shelter, that would make her smile. Her graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. , 8, 2017 at Elmwood . The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. |
