Obituary: CONSTANCE CAROLINE DENOOYER CRONK Known to all as Connie DOB: 1/26/24 IN PATERSON, NJ HUSBAND: RICHARD (RIT) JAMES CRONK DECEASED: JUNE 28, 1993 MOTHER: IDA (BASILE) DeNooyer FATHER: ANTHONY DeNooyer BROTHER: TOBY DeNooyer SON: RICHARD (RICK) JOHN CRONK DAUGHTER: LINDA DARLENE CRONK CUMBERLAND Constances life will always be represented by the memories so many hold dear to them. She was an amazing woman who opened her home and heart to all, accepting everyone with love, strength, time and laughter. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren know her for the times she played with them, read with them and always gave of herself whenever needed asking nothing in return. She inspired and encouraged many to be a bigger and better person. The relationship she and Rit shared set the standard we all tried to live up to. made it look so easy with the love and respect they showered on each other. She grew up in Little Falls, a small town in northern New Jersey. The first granddaughter in a large Dutch family and an even larger Italian family. On Thanksgiving Day 1943 she joined her heart and life with the Army soldier boy down the street, Richard James Cronk, when he surprised her by coming home for the weekend. On short notice, they pulled together a beautiful ceremony attended by both large families and the almost the whole town. started their Army life in Columbia, SC, transferring to a base in Battle Creek, MI, where she worked on the base supporting our WWII troops but had to live off base in a boarding home with strict rules. Oh, the stories she had to tell her family, like the endless bowls of chili for $.25, the freezing winter because her mother who was shocked that Connie would go off to live with her husband so far away told her if she wanted her winter coat she would have to come home to get it, and so many more. She was forced to leave her husband and return to NJ to live with her parents for the arrival of their first child, Richard John (Rick) in , 1945. When the war ended Rit and Connie were finally re-united to start their lives as a family struggling to make ends meet. For about five years, they lived in a tiny apartment where their second child, Linda Darlene, completed their family. In spite of hardships, they prospered and were able to buy their first home in Garfield, NJ. Connie seldom limited her family by traditional expectations and worked as a seamstress while supporting her husband strongly and her children lovingly. There was always fun and laughter in their home. She would play jump rope with Linda and her friends, dress up to take her children around for Halloween, host the biggest holiday gatherings and be there for anyone needing help. In 1958, they purchased a ranch in Wayne, NJ, which broke Connies mothers heart because they had moved so far away to he country. Now for the grandparents and family to visit, they had to travel more than ½ hour! In 1966 Rits occupation took them to live in Alexandria, Egypt, for just short of a year when they were evacuated out to Athens, Greece, due to the 6-Day War between Eqypt and Israel. Obituary: Walter Garfield Cronise, Jr. (90) died peacefully on , 20, 2014, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born in Baltimore, MD on 14, 1924, to Walter Garfield and Margaret Catharine (Wunderlich) Cronise and was baptized in the Lutheran church. He was confirmed on 10, 1938 at Emmanuel Evangelical Church, Baltimore, MD. Walter married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Nielsen, on May 30, 1944 in Miami, FL. were blessed with five children, seven granddaughters, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Walter remained in Baltimore until the age of 17 when he joined the US Navy on 8, 1941, following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. During his time in the Navy he was trained as a Meteorologist and served three tours of duty with the Hurricane Hunter Squadron. Walter was proud to have served his country for 25 years, including three wars \ World War II, Korean War, and Viet Nam War. While stationed primarily in Jacksonville, FL, the Navy also took him to South Florida, Alabama, California, Rhode Island, and Puerto Rico. He considered his assignment as an underway watch officer on an aircraft carrier to be one of his greatest achievements. Following his retirement as a Lieutenant in the Navy on May 1, 1967, Walter moved the family to South Florida where he became a popular broadcast Meteorologist on television at WPLG Channel 10 and on the radio. He was known for wearing only bow ties on air and was jokingly referred to as Rich Uncle Walter on the radio. Walter retired from broadcast Meteorology in of 1992. He and his wife, Dorothy, remained in South Florida until of 2014, when they moved to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to their two eldest children. His passion for Meteorology continued until his death. Walter checked the weather maps every day on his computer and continued to predict the paths of Hurricanes. He also enjoyed playing golf, including Pro-Am tournaments during his time at Channel 10, and watching sports on TV. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Margaret Carolyn Cronise Hopf. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy, his children Carole Lynn Cronise Ross (Todd), Diana Raye Cronise Canipelli, Glenn Arthur Cronise, Jon Christian Cronise, and Kristy Anne Cronise Friedman; his granddaughters Stephanie Lynn Ross Sawicki (Chad), Lisa Kathleen Ross Mills (David), Amy Suzanne Ross Williams (Ward), Dorie Christine Canipelli Ellis (Steve), Michelle Stephanie Friedman Kirchner (Kevin), Amy Marianne Canipelli Bouchelle (James), and Heather Anne Friedman; his great grand-children Camden Alexander Sawicki, Abigail Elizabeth Sawicki, Carter Todd Mills, Tate Andrew Williams, Annie Kate Sawicki, Clay Alexander Mills, Carson Ward Williams, Caroline Grace Mills, Sarah Paige Williams, Aurora Mae Bouchelle, Dylan Vincent Bouchelle, Audrey McKenna Ellis, Marshall Thomas Kirchner, and Madelyn Quinn Ellis; and his nieces, Barbara Hopf Keeney, Carol Hopf Penyak and Karen Hopf. Obituary: Dorothy Mae Nielsen Cronise , age 91, died peacefully at home , 2, 2016, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Miami, Florida on 18, 1924, to Marianne Jensen and Arthur V. Nielsen and was baptized on 19, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. She was confirmed at Bay Shore Lutheran Church, Miami, Florida. Dorothy spent her childhood in Miami, graduating from Edison Senior High. She met her long-time friend, Pearl Fritz, when she worked as a telephone operator at Southern Bell before her marriage to Walter G. Cronise on May 30, 1944 in Miami. Walter was in the Navy when they married, and while he was stationed primarily in Jacksonville, Florida, the Navy also took their growing family to South Florida, Alabama, California, Rhode Island, and Puerto Rico. Dorothy held down the fort at home when Walter was deployed. moved back to South Florida in 1967 when Walter retired from the Navy, living in North Dade and Davie until of 2014, when they moved to Jacksonville to be closer to their two eldest children. Dorothy was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful Christian example to her family. Bible reading, study, and prayer were an important part of her day. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She enjoyed music, sewing, needlework, reading, watching classic movies and cooking. The family shared many wonderful meals prepared by her including Danish leg of lamb, German sauerbraten, and Key Lime Pie with homegrown key limes. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Walter Cronise; and her younger brother, Raymond A. Nielsen. She is survived by her children, Lynn Cronise Ross (Todd), Diana Cronise Canipelli, Glenn Arthur Cronise, Jon Christian Cronise, and Kristy Cronise Friedman; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held , 16, 2016, at 11 AM at Grace Anglican Church, 5804 US Highway 17, Fleming Island, Florida 32003.
